Problem when installing software

Sometimes, when I install games or other stuff on my computer, my computer will either just freeze or reboot at some point during the installation process. However, if I DISABLE DMA for my CD drive, then this problem goes away, but then CD performance is very low.

People told me this is the "VIA bug" or something like that. How do I fix this?

I have the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers. Do you think this problem will go away if I install Windows 2000 with the NTFS file system?

i used to have an old via board and had the same problems. however, when i got windows xp, the problems went away:confused:

Must be the NTFS file system, right?

i dunno... it was a much older via board... i just turned off dma because it wouldnt stay on anyway with win 98..lol
