View Full Version : What's holding my GTX back

Can't get teh 8800GTX passed 625 core stable. Could this be a mobo or PSU problem, or just this particular GPU?

for stable, I'd say 630 core will be very close to the limit.
Benchable, you can push 660 core. If you have water, you can probably go even higher.

Yeah, I get pretty bad artifacts at 630, and sometimes BSOD.
Oh well, no need to push it for the benchmarks anyway.

What Power Supply are you using? That can also make a big difference.
cooling is also a big factor.
Hmm I can hit 660MHz on core with my one...but with the help of rivatuner the fan is at 100% and case is not closed...

same. I have to have all 4 case fans running @ max rpm to achieve cooling needed to get it to run like that, plus 100% 8800 GTX fan.

PSU is a OCZ Gamestream 600W, which you would think was strong enough, but I also have a decent OC on my CPU @ 3.52...
Might be heat related... GPU is getting into the mid 70's on 3dmark06. Air cooling, fans on auto.

Unless your PSU is going bad, it's not that. So that leaves heat.
Perhaps you can increase airflow to your 8800?

My gtx is @ 630 but it is stock
I see no artifacts, but maybe its so stable because it came like that?
Hmm...
Tried upping your PCI-E freq?

No, is that the one that defaults at 100 or is it the 333?
The airflow isn't great, its a Centurion 5 case, but I have a Tuniq in there blowing things around so I would be surprised if it's heat. I'm thinking my mobo is set up wrong, or my PSU is a POS.

Default is 100. I remember that the 7 series liked an increase frequency when running high end benches. I ran 113mhz for quite a while. I am not sure how the 8800's react to it though.

GPU running in the mid 70's is quite low.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I know they can get really hot.
I am also using both PCI-E connections from the PSU to the GTX. I wonder if I should try using a molex connector with an adapter and see if I get better results... seems like that was an issue for people a while back.
Could it be that my mobo just sucks at teh GPU OC????

Its also possible your GPU just can't do over 630Mhz on current voltages.... Id never touch those on a video card tho personally.

Here's what I got when I went to 640/1011 on 3mark06... it loaded proxycon, but before the benchmark animation started I got black screen, no signal, then this:

Not all cards are created equal. Like sniperman said, it is very possible your card simply can't go above that without upping the voltage to keep it stable.
