I recenly upgraded to the AMD 2500+ and ram listed in my specs, however, when I did so Windows started locking up and crashing at random. I contacted Asus about this an they said to update my BIOS, I already did this (Version 1002a). When I go into my BIOS and manually turn my RAM clock speed down to 80% (133/266) instead of "auto" which is 166/333, it seems to run perfectly fine. I have 2 sticks of kingston 512Mb Dimms, installed in the blue slots (2 & 3) on the Mboard. If anyone might know how to fix this issue, I would love to run my 333 Mboard at 333...

It could be the quality of the PC2700 RAM. I know there were problems with 512 MB Crucial 2700 memory on the Nforce2 boards. You could try bumping up the memory voltage a bit to try to get it stable, or return it and spend more $$$ on different RAM...

Im going to have to agree with you 100%, I have already applied for an RMA - and am going to get different RAM... can you recommend a known good brand for Asus mother boards? I know from the research I've done so far, that the Nforce chipset is incredibly picky about the Ram used.

Offhand, I'm not sure which 512 MB sticks are recommended. I have 2 x 256 MB Crucial PC2700 which runs fine at 333, but there are problems with the 512 MB sticks of the same memory. Have a browse of the forums over at nForcersHQ (http://www.nforcershq.com) and you're certain to find some good info.

I'm pretty sure that with the A7N8X Deluxe, it's slots 1 & 3 or 2 & 3 that operate in dual channel mode. That was the case on mine, and that seems to be the general consensus over at the nForcersHQ forum.

From their A7N8X FAQ:

Q. What slots do i put my memory in to enable Dual Channel DDR (TwinBank)?
A. The manual says for 1 stick to reside in each channel. What that means is to benefit from DCDDR you should place modules in slots 1 & 3, or slots 2 & 3. Slot 1 is located closest to the Ziff Socket (black in color) slot 2 is next (blue) and slot 3 is next (also blue). Using all 3 slots can also enable DCDDR. People’s results have varied from system to system depending on what slots they put their modules in. Some get better performance with a certain configuration and some get better stability with another. You should try your own tests as they will more then likely differ from others.
