Why do you use Windows Vista vs. sticking with Windows XP? So far it looks good for skins other then that I'm starting to think it really sucks ass!

Game play sucks on it, DirectX 10 games are still not fully out with games I want to play, memory hog! As Steve Jobs of Apple recently said...Hand me a glass of ice water I just got out of hell!

Based off of what? Out of the box Vista's security is exponentially superior to XP's. Not to mention native 64-bit support, able to address greater than 4GB of RAM, and countless other significant "under-the-hood" improvements, I fail to see the validity in your claim.

I see your point but there's still issues to account for which I can't list because then I'd have to take 12 pages alone on this thread lmao!

Game play sucks on it,

Not quite. It played comparably well to XP for me. That is, untill my hard drive crashed. :( Up until then Vista was superior to XP in every way possible, save for SLi scaling. That is nearly non-existant and SLi typically causes Vista to become unstable.

DirectX 10 games are still not fully out with games I want to play,

Coming from somebody that owns an 8800. Why did you purchase that 8800GTX? Why buy an 8800GTX over two 7900GTXs? Or two 7950GX2's? Why have 4GB of RAM compared to 2? Why use SATA300 instead of SATA150? Why use SATA 150 instead of PATA133? Why use PCI-e instead of AGP 3.0?

memory hog!

No, Vista is not a memory hog. In fact, it has superb memory management in comparison to XP. What Vista does is actually utilise all the available RAM. When you fire up an application that makes use of RAM (i.e. a video game) everything currently stored in RAM gets dumped into the page file, therefore devoting the majority of performance-critical resources to that game.

I wish people would educate themselves before they posted such nonesense. *sigh*

Start listing said issues, and I guarantee I'll be able to shoot atleast the vast majority of them down.

Remember, I've been using Vista Ultimate x64 extensively for the past several months. Bring it. :firedevil

I have no idea where you're getting all your problems from.... at this point Vista runs smooth as hell. Games and apps run great, totally stable for me, no security issues so far (although I've never had even 1 virus with 98, 2000 or XP) and it looks better....the question should maybe be "Why wouldn't you run Vista at this point?"

Seconded - I have only one issue with vista and that's Dark Messiah. Other than that smooth and fast. I even gave my XP discs to my girls for their rigs I gave when they moved out.

I would seriously start doing some in depth trouble shooting.

Well, recent game play has really pissed me off with Windows Vista and the whole idea of pc games taking 2 years to come out while the hardware is out now. What the hell is the motive behind all off that? It's a backwards process to me.
Making all this high-end hardware yet I'm setting around 1 to 2 years to get a crack at a game that will blow me away. Don't get me wrong Windows Vista has some great features. I guess all in all it will take sometime to make it what it is.
I would have just of hoped to have 3 VISTA direct x 10 game titles and my cherry on top on launch date! I mean that makes perfect since let me see what I'm paying for as a pc gamer! Let me see what my $649.00 graphics card can do now.
Let me feel the WOW! Case in point I'm still not feeling it. I do like the security factor and Directx 10 idea but I want alot of games to blow my money on.

Vista MC is still not up to snuff, at least not when recording two shows and trying to watch one. Under x64 I got a BSOD every 24-48 hours. With x32 I get a BSOD occasionally, but not as often.

MCE 2005 ran flawlessly, only needing a reboot about once a month or so, and that was voluntary.

I blame it on ATI Theater Pro 550 and Hauppauge 150MCE drivers more than anything, though. There are a few other odd ball issues I have with Vista, but that issue is the biggest to me, ATM.

My experience is similar. Everything runs great. Except Dark Messiah. Far Cry 64bit gave me a few problems, but the 32bit version runs fine. Stalker was also a problem, until I fixed the memory addressing with the DIY patch.

Oh I do have one other problem. My imate JasJam really doesn't like Vista. I have to plug it in a couple time before Vista even recognises it.

I still have both on my PC but boot 95% of the time to Vista lately. Why? Same reason some people get a new car every couple of years...something new and different even though there was nothing wrong with the one before.

I like the interface and with my system I do not notice the small performance drops from XP. All my games work perfect and driver support has improved quite a bit. I originally had it setup in duel boot with XP but I have not booted into XP for months. If everyone remembers right... XP had the same problems when it was released :p

I went with Vista because I had to reinstall Windows anyway and said "**** it, why not!" and well im impressed, it feels more stable then Xp in many ways.

Are you calling me out? haahahhaha.......... Well I've learned alot on these forums and I won't shy away from that fact. Knowledge is power!
Advice is free and I know I won't always get the answer I want and maybe some static... So far my hardware isn't over volted lol!

Hehe. Seriously though, it's a pain. I really like to sync my phone daily with my home PC. Might have more luck once there are Vista drivers for my Bluetooth dongle.

Vista is great though. Love the ability to get in and work right away. With XP after login I always had to wait a min or two while things were loaded.

It's much better/more stable than XP was for me. Plus, if you are a power user, it has some pretty nifty features.

I have currently installed Ubuntu 7.04, XP Pro and Vista Ultimate on this rig, only using Vista because the others just do nothing for me.

It's also a lot smoother and faster than XP. You do need a minimum of 1 GB, 2 GB highly recommended, but it feels great :)

There are some issues, no doubt, but name one application with this many uses/depth that is problem free.

I'm searching atm for a decent pda/smartphone and these are the kind of issues I have to find out about each one I may want. My work laptop has XP pro, so no worries there with syncing, eh..I get brain freeze every time I think of everything I've read about phones the past month!

Owwieee!!

I have absolutely no use of Vista; only loading into it like what, once a month, LOL? May be Lost Planet will change that. The only reason I'm dual-booting Vista is I could get a copy of Ultimate for less than $100.

EDIT
Sticking with XP for two reasons: SLI performance and DD/DTS decoding.

Yeah, and that is why I did not bother with XP until one year after release.

I'm loving Vista so far. I've been impressed with the 3D bubble screensaver as well as the analog clock and RSS widgets. Thus far gaming as been quite excellent on the machine with little or no issues with any of the drivers. I'm tripping over myself at all the DX10 gaming titles I've been able to enjoy as well as having an excuse to upgrade my physical memory to the 32bit limit without PAE so I can have a good computer.

It did take me a while to find the right USB key that was compatible with readyboost but after I found it life has been great, my boot time has decreased almost 300ms.

I ended up going with the Ultimate edition because I needed that, although I can't tell you what the differences are. I may hold off on Vista SP1 because the slow transfers and slow copying of files really doesn't bother me that much, I'm fine with USB 1.1 performance on IEEE1394 and USB 2.0 drives.
