Hello I just tried to run the .run file and get this in the installers log file.

Using: nvidia-installer ncurses user interface
-> License accepted.
-> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you li
ke the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel f
rom the NVIDIA ftp site (ftp://download.nvidia.com)? (Answer: Yes)
-> No matching precompiled kernel interface was found on the NVIDIA ftp site;
this means that the installer will need to compile a kernel interface for
your kernel.
-> Kernel include path: '/lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r10/build/include'
-> Cleaning kernel module build directory.

You appear to be compiling the NVIDIA kernel module with
a compiler different from the one that was used to compile
the running kernel. This may be perfectly fine, but there
are cases where this can lead to unexpected behaviour and
system crashes.

If you know what you are doing and want to override this
check, you can do so by setting IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH.

In any other case, set the CC environment variable to the
name of the compiler that was used to compile the kernel.

What do I need to do. My X doesnt even work now since running that since it deleted files it was gonna replace.

System specs are a Athlon2100XP with a Geforce4 440SE

If the kernel is compiled with gcc 2.x, but gcc 3.x is used when the
kernel interface is compiled (or vice versa), the size of rwlock_t
will vary, and things like ioremap will fail.

To check what version of gcc was used to compile your kernel, you
can examine the output of:

cat /proc/version

To check what version of gcc is currently in your $PATH, you can
examine the output of:

gcc -v

So, if you know what you're doing, export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH to something non-zero.

You should be able to run nvidia-installer --uninstall to restore everything the installer touched.

Nevermind it didnt like being run as su root
didnt realize it.
