Having issues here.

I tried a mixture of the regular nvidia drivers, Rivatuner, NVtray, and Coolbits.

What I did was this.

Install drivers, set OC in Rivatuner, use NVtray to switch to Classic control panel, use Coolbits to lock refresh rate. Anyway, it worked sometimes, but I just bought Lost Planet on Steam, so I'm going to the new 162.15 drivers from Nvidia.

So how can I lock a refresh rate? I would like to play LP at 1280x960@120hz. :)

In many games, "Oblivion and Quake 4 for instance", you can set the refresh in the games ini or cfg file. Sometimes these files can be found in the games folder or a subfolder, sometimes they are in a folder with the games name in "My Documents" or "Games" subfolder there.

Some games have the setting in the registry. Just find where it's set and change it. There are a few games in which the refresh rate setting isn't readily apparent. Google is your friend. I have no idea about "Lost Planet" specifically.

I've been using RefreshForce (http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rf/) for the last few years with both my ATI and nVidia cards :)

I use RefreshLock, which is the stay-resident-in-memory version of RefreshForce. I had a problem with RF about...wow...4 years ago. :o

Both are good tools to lock your refresh rate, though! ;)
