The 9800 is delayed for the same reason that the 9600 is delayed. Process problems at TSMC not allowing them to ramp up quickly enough. Though the 9800 isn't as delayed as the 9600 is.
Seems like some of nvidias bad luck has rubbed off on ATi.

That is not the case with the 9600 either. They in fact are upping the release date:
ATI Technologies has decided to move up volume shipments of its Radeon 9600 (RV350) chip from June to the end of April to compete with Nvidia’s upcoming NV35 chip, according to sources.
Nvidia plans to introduce its NV35, an updated version of the GeForce FX 5800 (NV30), in May. ATI had originally aimed to begin shipping the Radeon 9600 in volume in June to meet second-half seasonal demand.
Although top-end products like ATI’s Radeon 9800 (R350) often grab the spotlight, usually less expensive high-end chips such as the Radeon 9600 have a greater impact on market share in the high-end sector, graphics card makers noted.
Demonstrated at the CeBIT Hannover show in March, Nvidia’s NV35 reportedly will deliver much enhanced performance compared to the NV30. The market also expects that since it supports DDR memory, the NV35 is less likely to encounter the problem of limited memory supply that the DDRII-supporting NV30 has suffered from.
Rumors had suggested that the NV35 would likely be the first Nvidia product to be produced by IBM, but some industry sources said that might not be the case, as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is said to have already started manufacturing NV35 chips for Nvidia. IBM may make chips following the NV35 for Nvidia.

Grrr.... I can only assume that Dabs are setting a high price just to ensure they cover the actual price, since with BestBuy selling at $399.99 it's cheaper for me to buy one from the States, pay import tax and stupid shipping! Works out to 262 GBP with the current exchnage rate!

The price BB pays is somewhat close to what the 9700 Pro was at when it first came out, a little higher of course, but not much when compared to the overall price.

I have Breaking news! How seriously you take it will be up to you.
I called my Local CompUSA and asked them if they had the 9800Pro in stock, and he said "No, but they will arrive tomorow"
Then i asked, so they will be in my local store (indinapolis) tomrow. And he said "yes"
So tomorow im gonna wander up there and hopefully buy one. I dont know if he was just trying to get me off the phone or something, but im riled hehe.
Just called Best Buy (Boise, ID)...lady seemed somewhat clueless, told me they didn't have them in yet but that their truck shows up tonight, so if it was supposed to ship today they should have it tomorrow. We'll see...

Hehe, well that's not what matters (although it seems weird to me too).

I have heard of one person able to purchase a card off the shelves at a Fry's, east or west coast. Besides ordering online has anyone actually heard of cards being available on retail outlet shelves?
