Thinking of switching to ATI

I do however have some questions. My current card is the Asus G4 Ti 4600 128mb. I go by bandwidth of a card because that truely is the only factor on how smooth things will run.

My card hits 10 gigs/sec. roughly.

I have seen charts saying the fx 5900 ultra hits near 30 gigs/sec. Cant find any though.

The ATI 1650 pro hits 22gigs/sec, which is nice plus the dx9 features.

My concern is drivers of course. I have heard Omega drivers are the way to go.

What do you all suggest on any of this?

I'd avoid ATI right now. The R600 generation is a mess, really, especially if you don't go for the HD 2900 (which is disappointing too, but less so than 2600 on down).

The GF 8800 line is rather indisputably the best out there for gaming.

If you aren't buying 8800 or HD2900, you'd be better of with an ATI X19xx something than anything from ATI or NV's midrange. X19xx is also superior to NV's older cards. So, ATI does still have a place.

Oops. But, hey, my recommendation of a X1900 was still spot on anyway.

I'd only consider a GF7 product if it was a lot cheaper. Their performance is questionable IMO cuz of their image quality issues in comparison to the X1900 line (or even the X800s for that matter). I have a 7800 GTX in my notebook and noticed immediately that its texture filtering is worse than my old X800. Same with AA, but less so.

It doesn't bother me when someone states their opinion about the R600; that's their right. It's only after they seem to troll around following my every post doing it is when it starts to get annoying. In other words, the same thing it appears you've done on a few occasions.

He's always barging in and tossing his wang around trying to p!ss on anything good about the R600. He does this even though I've kept all of my posts restricted to only threads around here that discuss it specifically.

For example,

1) Then you do that man next time
instead of prizing about your X2900 all the time (on a thread reserved for R600 benchmarking. - Xion)

2) The 8800 runs great both old and new games

Your excuse that the 8800 series is only good for old games is really weak (I never said the G80 was only good for older games - Xion)

3) 90% of the review sites out there prove that the G80 is the winner in most cases with old or new famous games with AA enabled

R600 takes a ugly beat with AA enable even with the latest official Catalysts (do not even dare to say that Elite Bastards are liars with their review)

So it's only your word against their word

Between G80 and R600
Nvidia G80 is still the king especially with the Ultra model around


Xion just accept the R600 defeat like a man and get on with it instead of trying to make excuses

Maybe ATI will get their crown back with R650 or with R700 but until then G80 is still the king

Νot only has a noise fan but it loses too in most benchmarks
What the HELL ATI was doing all these months

The X2900XT just loses in most benchmarks i have seen until now both in DX9 and in DX10 even with the latest 7.6


Also the Catalysts are just a bunch of unoptimized crappy drivers
Everytime time ATI release a new drivers more new bugs are found


I hope ATI releases R700 soon or just better hire some new guys to create their drivers

#1 - I never said it kicked the 8800GTX's ass. In fact, I have never once claimed that it's as strong of a card as the 8800GTX, so stop being such a drama queen.

#2 - My praise of the 2900XT has been pretty well-tamed, I'd say. And I've also kept all of my comments restricted to the R600 benchmarking thread or just threads that discuss R600 specifically. I haven't participated in any other threads but those. I haven't jumped on any G80 threads and trashed your card like you feel the need to do whenever the R600 is discussed.

Man this isn't my fight, but you called me out, so I'm here. If you have something to say to me go ahead, so far everything you said about your benchmarks, seems to be wrong, thats why I stated make sure your benchmarks have controls, low and behold, now we get a 20% difference in favor of the GTX in TDU, the latest drivers and benchmarks of all dx10 games/patches go in favor of the GTX, just like I said that the benchmarks going from Dx9 to Dx10 won't change much from a relative point of view in card standings. How wrong can you be in the last 2 weeks of posting, VERY WRONG! And when someone goes against you, and I wasn't being abrasive at that point, you didn't like it, so yeah I don't care for you personally, but I don't like it when you give out false information and then get nasty when someone tells you to piss off because your information is wrong.

Ok not wrong just really innaccurate because you didn't know how to test properly.

Vasot, he called me out, so I'm here he put me in the middle of this fight, he likes to start fights, that seems to be his habit.

One thing though, the 2900 isn't a piece of crap, yeah its not as good as the competition but even with its draw backs, it price performance ratio is where it should be. AMD couldn't take home the prize this year, maybe next gen will be different. (Xion this is what I was going to post before I saw your flame baiting crap)
