I installed my HD 2900 XT about 3 weeks ago. I began to notice that it wasn't getting enough power in the first week, so I ordered a dedicated power supply to get it more power. After I got it all hooked up, I ran it, and the performance and framerate was still just horrible. I noticed it worst in partially Halo 2 Vista and very very badly in Lost Planet. In lost planet it was so bad that it even said that I needed to improve my system requirements in the middle of the game. Does anyone have any idea why this card isn't working for me, or did I install it incorrectly or something? I really want to get this working before crysis comes out.
Thanks,
Zman47000

Lost Planet's performance under Vista with the 2900XT is pretty poor right now, you would be better off playing LP under XP as its about twice as fast for the 2900XT.

As for Halo 2 im not sure about how it should perform so I cannot help you there.

LP performance is DX 10 is poor in Vista. ANyone verify its poor under DX9 in Vista? There is always emulation and fallback

Do you know how it will be under Crysis?

Nope, no one really knows anything for certain yet about native DX10 games and current GPU's.

Im pretty sure however that both the 2900XT and 8800GTX will probably struggle with crysis even though some would disagree.

Do you know what current games will run well with my graphics card and with Vista? Like maybe a DX10 game?

Im not sure about Vista but under XP the following games run great on the 2900XT.

Oblivion
Rainbow Six Vegas
Test drive Unlimited
Lost Planet DX9
Dirt

You should play your games under XP currently because it is still performing better than vista for gaming. We still have a ways to go before DX10 and Vista are completely optimized. Over the next couple of years all games being made will still have a DX9 path availible since most people are still with DX9 hardware.

Do you remember the transition from DX8 to DX9? I do, and guess what? it didnt happen over night. It took a couple of years after DX9's release before it finally took over and became mainstream.

Honestly bud as far as DX10 is concerned its just to early to tell yet.

It's sad that people buy the 2900XT, even after countless benches have shown it to be much worse than the GTX, let alone the GTS variants.

Fanboyism knows no boundaries.

Right now, if you buy into that card, expect crummy performance compared to the competition. There's no need to sugarcoat it.

I still can not find a reason to call this card bad ,Ever game I have played works great ,Ever game I have played my 2900XT is faster then my 8800GTS ,sure it is not as fast as my 8800GTS SLI setup ,but it is still not as bad as a card as some people are saying it is.Ever driver release seems to help it .But know one should except the nvidia fourm to praise it.It did'nt beat the 8800GTX so people say it is a flop ,but I have found nothing wrong with the one I am running unless you want to mention it needs a powerplant to run it.IMO. Most people that say it is no good ,does not have it and the people that have it say it is not as bad as people keep saying.I own both but the best thing I can say is my 2900XT did'nt cost me nothing .I will keep it in for awhile unless I get a game where it really does suck then I will put my 8800GTS SLI setup back in.

WRONG

We may have forum members that own NV cards by the majority but that is not to say we are what you are suggesting

In that case the 8800 gts 320mb wins ;)

I was just meaning if you were at another site that had ATI in the name ,you might have more people that don't condem the card ,when they have'nt even used one ,and are just going by the reviews they see.Because when I got this one I was excepting it to run all my games bad compared to one of my 8800GTS cards, and it actually surprised me that it was not as bad as I thought is was going to be.

If you need to buy a new psu to use it , the ati card comes nowhere near being cheaper per frame per second, not to mention your leccy bill.
Addmitedly ive ordered a Thermaltake 250w but thats as I use 4 drives and 4 gb memory and fan overkill.
