I'm well aware of the advantages and disadvantages. Just curious as to what made most of you with so little ram decide to make the switch when that is one of its single biggest advantage at this point.

Actually, the biggest advantages were:

Security
Future-Proofiness
And then the memory bit.

Not a member of Guru3D, but been following the thread there and I seem to be getting a lot of stick for leaking these drivers. If anyone over there is a member could they pass these bits on to this thread:

I have never faked any driver releases and I have released a lot of leaked drivers for WindowsXP and Windows Vista over the years, as for 12 bsods thats quite impressive for 12 minutes after the OP as well as installation, reboots. (later see its a joke, but it hurt my feelings :p)

All I wanted to do was install the drivers not cut them down from how they were given to me, I will leave that to those who are used to doing it more regularly - if NVIDIA don't release something themselves of course.

All the files from the installer package are from the official but pulled 162.15 release for Windows Vista other than a slightly modified nvdisp.inf - use any file comparison tool you like to check. I don't recall getting swapping when I installed but then Windows update hit at the same time last night so I got distracted. The installer for 162.15 was maybe odd tho as it didn't prompt before rebooting and didn't do the whole rigmarole of demanding old drivers be removed first. It did undo everything I had done to add nvtune and the storage tabs though.

Could have occured with 162.15 as well? There must be a reason that these drivers have not yet been released.

Quoted for stupidity, yes they are obviously modified from the XP version with a few linux bits thrown in for the transparency, thats how it all works.
We also leaked the XP WHQL signed version of 162.15 as well which we made in notepad.

As for not knowing about osnn.net well thats just a sin! It is also listed here:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/community/related.mspx although I need to get the description updated a bit :p

Its too bad people are now bashing you. If nvidia would just release drivers this wouldn't be a problem. I realize they prolly pulled 165.18 because something is screwed up. I think every set has had enough problems and could've been pulled though. Wonder why this set? And how bad is it that it's been delayed this long?

They didn't even pull drivers back when they were causing 6800's to run 8-10c hotter, hehe. If they implode my PC then it's my fault anyway for installing beta drivers no matter who posted them.

These give me the same vertical corruption that the 162.15's gave me as soon as they activate.

Hopefully an official release will be devoid of the problem. Then again I've been hoping for that since I picked up Vista in Feb.

the 6800's didn't actually run 8 - 10c hotter, it was just an erroneous reading. I can't remember now if you turned the 2d frequency up or down but one of them fixed it and the correct temperature reading returned.

No need to lock it unless people keep bumping it.
