Hello,

whenever I change via CTRL-ALT-Fn from X to another vt my computer freezes. CTRL-ALT-DEL nor blindly logging or anything else will do anything.

The same happens when I logout from my window manager and X tries to change video modes. A black screen and no more control.

Furthermore I noticed a considerable slowdown in 2D since 1.0-3123. I reverted to this driver now, and everything works fine again.

My system:
Debian sid
XFree86 4.2.1
Nvidia 1.0-4349
(tried to install with the debs and with the installer, both the same problems)
Kernel 2.4.20
(with preemptive patch and latest ptrace patch)

I hope anyone can help me,
Sebastian

Are you using a high-res framebuffer console? If not, try enabling it (in your kernel config) -- just use the VESA VGA one, and try passing vga=794 to your kernel through your bootloader -- 794 works for me at least.

If you are using a high-res console, try disabling it (vga=none) for a boot and see if that helps.

Also make sure that if you are using a high-res console now, that you're using the VESA drivers, and not the rivafb drivers. cat /proc/fb to find out.

Hm that did not work.

Before I had disabled framebuffer support entirely. Now I enabled it and added the vga16fb and vesafb. Kernel automatically chose vesafb. The highest mode that worked for me was vga=788.

Kernel boots, frambuffer is activated, X starts. But then, whenever I change vt or quit X, the system freezes...

Btw.:
I have a Terratec Mystify with GeForce4 Ti4200

Hmm... :(

Maybe linux-bugs would like to know? The only fix that I know of for problems like that (lockups on switching VTs) is changing the fbconsole stuff.

Yes, linux-bugs would like to know.

Very well, then I will file a bug report.

Thanks,

This happened when I tried installing the new drivers. I've since reverted to the 3xxx series and its still happening...

I have one Abit Siluro GF4Ti4200 8x and i had the same problems now they are gone after i flashed my videocard
I think the video card had some problems in his original flash

Initialy i flashed with one leadtek rom but didn't work. after that i reflashed with the bios from the support webpage of abit and now works in AGP 8x. Curiously the bios version bundled with the video card was identical with the one i downloaded from the internet but this movement rezolved my problem.

Check you video card vendor for bios upgrade.
