For those who havent read about th new ASUS P5K3 Premium, it has onboard 2GB of DDR3 that is guaranteed to run up to 1500Mhz.

This board should be about $360

They are also planning a revision with an extra 2 slots for external RAM.

2 gigs almost isn't enough NOW with Vista so this is very stupid.

If it still had 2 more ram slots it would be ok but I would still much rather be able to choose my own ram.

Might be cool if it were a mini or nano ITX board.

Well that board definately looks pretty cool. I like the heat pipes.

But I'm not too much of a fan of the built on memory.

There is a regular (http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=534&l4=0&model=1645&modelmenu=1) version of it too. Maybe with 4GB the above could be useful but I would still like to have replaceable memory.

I like the cooling method, not so much the built in-ness, surely it can be removed and the ram replaced though, otherwise youre screwed if the ram dies.

Dont tell me the ram is soldered to the board ,that would be crazy.

If they use tape on the heatsink ,well thats just stupid also but I wouldnt put it past them.

Not stupid for them obviously coz its cheaper/easier

I absolutely dislike it and I hope this "onboard memory" will be a one time thing.
I agree. If one memory module is faulty I am assuming you have to send the whole thing back which would suck.

Is this really any different from how computer graphics cards are now? After all, if one IC dies, you have to send the entire graphics card back, which is a pain (this is from experience with ATI's graphics cards).
