I was thinken the other day, Releasing Cat 3.3 at such a crucial time would be a bad idea, Because it would definately make the benches of the 9800/9600 series look not as impressive when they come out if they did something like that.

Your thoughts on this?

If the 9600 Pro comes out using the new optimised drivers and the 9500 Pro is still using cat 3.2, It's kinda maken me wonder.

In truth they could. But I sure hope not. As you know all HL bases games/mods are FUBAR in OpenGL mode if you hit the ESC key. This is a major oversite and should have been corrected in Cat3.3. Since HL and/or her Mods are still extremly popular than holding back the Cats3.3 would be a very stupid move IMHO.

Ya I have had issues with OpenGL in other things as well. I am really hoping that these issues get fixed with cat 3.3..

That's true, but what if they're holding back the release because they didn't fix the problem yet?

Better to delay drivers and release with significant fixes than disappoint ppl by saying "maybe in the next release".

Like u said, HL and esp. CS are v. popular = lots of p!ssed off ATI card users if the Cat 3.3's fail to deliver a fix.

IIRC the 3.3's are targetted at 9700P / 9500P users, where the 3.2's were targetted at 9800P users..?

Right...with Cat 3.2 drivers.

Cat 3.3 contains some of the driver optimisations that went into to the 3.2 drivers specifically for the 9800. But those enhancements were not fully tested on the 9700. Those enhancements (after full testing) will be applied to the 9700 with the 3.3 drivers.

I'm assuming these enhancements will come for the Radeon 9500 Pro too yes?

Dunno. Certainly, since it's the same chip as the 9700, it should be there, but any performance improvements might rely on the extra bandwidth available on the 9700.

My guess is that there are just as many 9800 users as there are GFX Ultra users right now. ;)

that comment is a little off.. specially seeing the 4-5 users on this board alone...

I am sure if you look @ a larger board... you might see more users...

but yes.. visiontek 9800pro orders have shipped and I am sure some people have these cards already.

The Radeon 9800 Is definately available in larger quantities than the Geforce FX, Theres no denying that,

Personally I am begining to Doubt we'll ever see any of the Nv30 series hit store shelves,

Tho The Nv31/Nv34 will

We had a BFG Ultra in our store the other day. Not sure if someone has bought it or not though, haven't checked.

I was at the TigerDirect store yesterday and I saw a stack of about 6 of these cards ready to be sold. It sure was tempting (especially since you get a free t-shirt with those cards :D) but I realized that the 9800 wouldn't be much of an improvement over my presently modded 9500. ;)
