ive been trying for two days now to get my original nForce board to work under SLackware 9, as well as RH 9 (must be the number 9)

The new nvidia graphics driver installed FINE! here's where i get the problem when trying to install the source rpm in RH.

(keep in mind this error message is as close to verbatim as i can get it, my other comp, having no useable network, i cannot get the full error message from the other comp to this one.. no floppy drive)

it looks like it gets to the audio portion and it says:

Reversed (or previously applied) patch detected! Assume? -R (n)?
Apply anyway? (n)

2 out of two hunks ignored -- saving rejects to file etcetc
make [1] all Error 1
leaving dir /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/nforce/nvaud.o
make [nvaudio_make] Error 2
error bad exit status from usr/temp/rpm-temp

RPM Build Errors
rpm meister BLAHLAHBLAH

ANY possible idea what could be causing this? i initially tried to install it after a fresh 9.0 install.

You shouldn't need to build the audio driver on RH9 - it ships with a working i810_audio driver already.

so then how can i build everything BUT the audio driver?

Grab the tarballs, untar them, change into the nvnet directory, and do a make; make install.

yep, that did the trick... it mistve been the pre-existing installtion of the audio driver that was stopping the entire rpm from installing.

maybe you guys can start distributing the audio and net drivers separately if linux releases are going to be releasing their own drivers? just a thought... cause im gonna bet thisll come up more as RH 9 gets released to the public... or maybe not ;)

I usually compilled from .src... now I will have to do the tarballs route (although new), I bet it will be difficult for noobs...

I think a splitting of the audio and nvnet would be useful...

However, I read @nforcers HQ that RH9 includes a driver for the ethernet chip... can anyone confirm?

Still waiting for nforce drivers for RH9

using tarballs will be difficult as well, as if they are compiled as a whole, they will not work. like andy said, you have to go into the nvnet directory (in the nforce folder that is created once you unzip the tarball) and do a make install from the nvnet directory...

This should be fixed in the next release.

ETA?

I am not too stressed b/c the RH9 retail kit (I need a sticker refill and books) is not out for another few days, can we expect the drivers soon there after?

I don't have an ETA, but it'll go out as fast as possible.

true on the retail release, but there are a lot of network subscribers that already have a copy in their hands, such as people like me... it went out on bitorrent as well, so there are quite a few people out there with it already
