I've been stuck having to use the 3123 drivers for a long time now...

The last two driver releases fail to work no matter what I try.
Going to give as detailed as a report on my specs as I can.

Debian Sid/Unstable (updated daily)
XFree86 4.3
Linux 2.4.20 (from kernel.org, not the debian way)
GeForce 3 Ti 500
Asus A7V8X (KT400)
Athlon XP 2100+
256M PC2700 DDR
gcc --version\ gcc (GCC) 3.2.3 20030316 (Debian prerelease)
libc6 version 2.3.1
ncurses5 version 5.3.20021109-2

What happens when I try to use the latest drivers is that once X starts, I
can't do a thing. X never fully starts. My system hangs to where I can't even
ssh in and my processor fans kick in. (telling me something is eating at the
processor)

As for the nvidia installer, I have tried using it, and even downloaded the
tar.gz files off of the ftp. Neither work and give the same results. All the
files are where they belong and there are no errors when loading the nvidia
module.

---------------------------------------------

Thats a copy of an email I sent to linux-bugs@nvidia.com

The only way I can stop X is by using alt+SysRq+E right before kdm and X are started in the boot script.

I think I suggested this in another thread somewhere... i'm losing track. :)

Can you try disabling AGP?

Why do people insist on running development/unstable trees of their distribution? Have you ever thought that might play into things?

Yes I have tried disableing AGP, as I said I've tried every solution*. But even then, I would rather go to a driver that CAN work with AGP so I can play games without suffering performance loss. Kinda kills the point of upgrading to a new driver if I can't use them properly, right?

And using unstable doesn't exactly mean unstable. It's just the latest version of packages. Now, stability issues do occur (but are fixed quite fast), but if it was package related I think the drivers I'm using now would also be broken.
(There are also many stable and woody users that have this problem, so it's not just debian unstable.)

*Every possible solution that I've encountered on these forums, irc help, and other sites.
