I'm looking for a 20" monitor for my new computer highly customized for gaming and movies..

I posted on another forum, and have been left with a choice of 4:

Dell UltraSharp 2007WFP (http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/129614)
Samsung SM206BW (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=0&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X3Jldmlld3M=&product_uid=125098)
LG L204WT (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=0&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X3Jldmlld3M=&product_uid=121978)
Dell E207WFP (http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/128236)

I did want something that looked good as well.. so my preferences were the first two.. but I wasn't sure which one was better from all four. They all vary in response time and the ratios.. whereas the first Dell which is the most expensive has a contrast ratio of 800:1 the cheaper Samsung has a contrast ratio of 3000:1..

Please could someone advise me on which to go for.. and if possible also explain to me the importance of the contrast ratio and the response time as they all vary in the monitors, and wanted to understand what differences it makes to have higher/lower..

Thanks!

I have both the E207WFP and the Samsung SM206BW- and I like the Samsung a bit more. But, over all, both monitors rock. I'd recommend the Samsung over the Dell- but regardless of which of those two you chose, you would not be disappointed. ;)

There's the Dell 2007WFP as well...

What makes you like the Samsung more?

Do you use your monitor for watching a lot of movies (any downloaded by any chance?!)

I use my monitors for gaming primarily. I hardly ever watch movies.

I like the Samsung more simply cause the image just seems cleaner, and motion seems more "natural" on it. Then again, I have a heavy bias favoring Samsung- so that could be the main reason why I like the Samsung more. :p

Regardless, I'm very happy with both monitors. :D

By "SM" he meant "SyncMaster"- I'm sure it is 100% identical to yours. :p

the 3000:1 contrast on the samsung is its dynamic contrast. i havent looked it up but i bet its real contrast is 1000:1. LG's 204wt has 2000:1 but its really 800:1. Out of all those monitors I would easily pick up the samsung 206. since you dont need video features the dell 2007wfp probably isnt for you.

edit - it looks like the samsungs are not what they may seem

well after reading those I just checked my Samsung's 19 inch ws serial number it has an ME not S in it but it looks great to me. wonder if this applies to all Samsungs or just certain models. I definitely don't see any over obvious backlight bleading and these monitors even have the option of changing the response time in the menu so I find it hard to believe it wouldn't be as advertised.
