my first impression was it needs a lot of juice ,The fan is not loud most of the time ,I have not heard it kick in to high gear while playing TDU,but if you set it to 100% with rivaTuner then yes it is pretty loud. The games that I have played looks good with it ,To me TDU look better and Fear look the same to me .It was a tad faster in TDU then my single 8800GTS .I have not had any game that it would'nt play.IMO it is priced about right in tune with it performance. If I had to choose between the 2900XT and the 8800GTS 640mb it would be hard ,but I don't have to since I have both. But so far I would lean to the 2900XT because it seems to be just a tad faster in the games I play then the 8800GTS,and if you overclock it then it is faster.but if I though in my SLI then the 8800GTS wins by far.But if you game below 1600x1200 the 8800GTS 320mb would be the best deal by far.

"Seems faster" is not a number that can be reproduced. It's probably your expectation of a faster setup leading you to perceive it to be faster. At best you can hope for identical performance to a GTS. At worst, worse performance than even a 320 GTS.

The XT is generally slower than the 640 and even 320, especially when you turn on high levels of AA and AF.

Unless you got that card at a huge discount, it's a waste of money.

It looks worse and performs worse than the competition.

And before anyone here attacks Kyle and crew:

Attack his methodology not his character. The H's exhaustive testing is far more insightful than any ****ty canned benchmark.

I hate HardOCP's review of the 2900 XT. It gives the XT no credit at all, even though it is a half decent solution.

I think Hardocp' reviews are great because they give you EXACT details of all eye candy settings, drivers, etc. to really show true gaming capabilities. Many reviews use only canned bench marks or tell you resolution, AA and AF. Framerates can be drastically altered and manipulated by other in game settings.
Unfortunately for ATI fans this methodology truly shows the defficiencies of the 2900 XT.
Many times in the past Hardocp has recommended ATI' offerings over Nvidia and I have no doubt they are 100% fair.

I am not going to start a number game here ,there was enough of that in another thread that got closed.I have no expectation of the card since I got it free ,but in TDU it gets over 10fps faster then my single 8800GTS.At 1280x960 4xFSAA and everthing else set to high with fraps 88max 62min 73.5avg and at 1680x1050 iget 70max 55min 61.2avg and with one of my 8800GTS I never got above 72max at 1280x960 4xFSAA,So I don't care what it get ,since I got it free ,I had no expectation since I have a 8800GTS SLI setup. With my SLI I get over 120fps.I will not play who has the better card because the 8800GTX would be the faster one or a ultra. But IMO the 2900XT is not a bad card ,it is not perfect ,but none are.

I don't believe in none of the review sites because you can always find the numbers you want.If it runs good for me ,then thats all that counts. All I am saying is it is not a bad card,ATI even said that it would be slower then a 8800GTX.But for what I paid for mine 2900XT,the price can't be beat $0.
I have said all I am going to about my 2900XT.

The loaner 2900XT I used and did a short review here performed very well. In fact it did much better than in some reported full reviews in Stalker. Before I gave it up I even updated my monitor to a Gateway FPD2485W and ran the same benchmark at 1920x1200 with the same settings and still recorded high 30s. I further checked this running all the Duty maps (which took several gaming sessions) with no problems...verdict, not a bad card.
I still would pick the 8800 GTS 640MB overall but I would not knock this card like some do.
Enjoy your card!

Why were is he?Banned, temporarily I think. A thread and some PM's got out of hand, IIRC.

What's the point to quote an old review? Things got improved since then for ATI. Before you start anything, I own both HD2900XT and 8800GTS 320Mb, and I have no complain for both cards.
