"Kikizo: One thing that you and I spoke about last time, which led to maybe a bit of awkwardness afterwards, was about the Sixaxis, motion, and rumble. But you guys have now reached an agreement with Immersion I believe. When do you think that we may learn more about a product that reflects this agreement? [I.e. - an official rumble-enabled Sixaxis controller for PS3].

Hirai: Uh, well that's something that I know the consumers have told us they're looking to have in the PS3 controller, it's something that we're obviously looking at, now that we've reached an agreement with Immersion. We're also looking at a variety of other things that we can incorporate with the controller, and we'll come out with announcements when we think we have the right mix of features for the PS3 controller. I mean, as you know, that's also an evolving peripheral, if you will, in that we started out with the original PS1 controller with no analogue, and it's come all the way to this point, so obviously, as we go forward, it's not the final model for a PS3 controller, so we'll see what comes down the road."

PS3 owners may need to get new controllers?

We all knew that already (considering the massive amount of rumors going on about it), The PS1 went through changes and I expect Sony to milk the PS3 by changing it (adding rumble). I honestly don't miss it, I like the lighter feel of the controller.

BTW Dirt for the PS3 will ship with rumble options... if thats any hint...

I liked the current PS3 controller, it's so light. I don't miss rumble at all either. Also it'll probably screw up with sixaxis if you try to turn, and rumble kicks in, you run off the cliff in motostorm. :o

Pfft I can't stay off the cliffs even without rumble...

I miss rumble.:(

I feel it adds to the whole gameplay experience. It would be nice to get some physical feedback when you're on fire in Resistance, rather than a flashing icon on screen. That would add to the immersion for me.

It won't mess with motion sensing. Just look at the WiiMote.

I liked rumble on the original PS2 controllers, but I don't particularly miss it. As Magus said, I really like how light the PS3 controller is. Some people think it makes it feel "cheap", but I just find it more comfortable to use.

Rumble has always been a gimmick IMO.

I miss it, too...I like trucking a safety with my running back in madden and feel the hit I just put on him! :captnkill:

Rumble is a pretty lame gimmick when you are watching a cutscene, and its just 30 seconds of constant rumbling and explosions. Seriously, I usually put the controller down for those because it just bothers my hands.

But I love the more subtle use of rumble in racing games, I enjoy that it adds some much needed tactile feedback in wii games, but its something that definitely needs to be used appropriately in games so that it doesn't become overdone.

Rumble is NOT a gimmick as it relates to racing games. Race Wheel Force Feedback falls under the same legal heading as Rumble. Not having force feedback on F1 Championship is what made me switch back to rFactor.

Speaking of which, does anyone know if there's any plans to add FF back into F1 Championship now that the lawsuit is settled, the same way GT:P added it back in with an update?

Rumble is essential I say, it becomes a whole new sense of it's own.
E.g playing Tenchu Z today, walk over a trapdoor that's about to fall through, pad rumbles so I roll out of the way.

It's the subtle moments of rumble that make it work.
