NEW YORK (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Thursday it would lower the price of the high-definition DVD player accessory for its Xbox 360 game console in the United States to $179 from $199, and add five free movies to anyone who buys the machine in August or September.



Looks like I will be getting one next month for my Birthday. (nana2)

Unless you're really strapped for space I'd avoid buying the add on especially now that for $20 more you can buy the Toshiba standalone. I was happy with the addon for a while but the noise the 360 generates is not worth a $20 savings.

The Toshiba Standalone for $20 more will it do 1080p because I know that not all of the players will?

The A2 is selling for $200? The MSRP is currently $299.

It is a pitty that the five free movie deals are only in the US, same goes for the PS3 deal.

nice deal but yeah im broke. i just spent money on upgrading my rig. also i don't need other format to spend on. im sticking with blu-ray.

Well you will be waiting for a long time. I think the company backing both formats will do everything they can to keep their brand alive.

I have seen an edited TV version of We Were Soldiers. Excellent film.

Not a great selection, but at least you get Jessica Simpson and Angelina in HD. :)
