no sound/ubuntu 7 os

have nvidia chipset, creative lab sound card in pci. no sound except in sound external speakers not coming through sound card. Are there some kernal drivers I can install or download for this? or what should I do can't play cd's on my system using card! creative doesn't seem to have drivers for linux/unix based OS can any one help?:

Ubuntu forums a good place to start. I solved all my issues from there. I read somewhere that if you have onboard sound to disable it in the bios.
