Both say True HD . . .will test it on the PS3 today to see if it sounds any better than Dolby Digital

For the most part, I don't think you'll notice a difference. It really depends on a number of factors. It's kind of like trying to get somebody to tell the difference between 480p from 10 feet away and 1080p from 10 feet away on a 30" screen.

In the case of audio, it depends on your DAC, your amp, your speakers, your room, and believe it or not your furniture as well. And it may not be all audio that you hear a difference in, it could just be the just the lows or just the highs that you hear a difference with, depending on the source that is.

You are using the SR805 if I recall correctly? That should be more than sufficient for hearing the difference as far as driving the sound goes, IMO. The next biggest factor is your speakers.

So what's the good word Beavis? Were there any noticeable differences between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray versions of 300?

Have not fired up the HD DVD one yet (actually gave it to my buddy - got him a HD DVD 360 add on for his bday along with 300). I watched it on BR last night and it was amazing . . .you guys have to realize I just went from having a Yamaha YST 1000 soundbar do all my sound including process to having a real audio system including an HDMI 1.3 receiver (True HD). I understand the 1.3 is not needed for the PS3 but the Soundbar could not handle True HD as it only had optical in which does not have enough bandwidth for True HD at least as I understand it.

Having discrete surround sound just kicks arse. I also have buttkickers under my two couches and a kick ass sub . . .an uber kick ass sub. As EvilChris will even vouch . . .my TV is awesome (he has the same one).

Buttkickers rule !!!!
No home theatre setup (or theatre, in fact) is complete without them. ;)

Spent ages trying to decide between PCM soundtrack (bluray) or special features (HD-DVD). In the end I went for HD-DVD for the fact that I can watch it HD/SD in any room. The PQ is supposed to be identical for both.

In reviews it says the TrueHD and PCM sound pretty identical, they are both lossless after all, if I had to choose between DTS-HD MA, TrueHD or PCM I would happily pick any of them :D

If either were to be "better", it would be PCM because its 24-bit, but the human ear probably can't tell the difference.

Correction:

HD-DVD version is the way to care if you care about extras and want to spend more for a retarded combo format.

3 dollars more for extra content and being able to play it on both hddvd and dvd players sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
