The problem is that once my NVIDIA (GeForce 2 MX) card has entered DPMS sleep mode (e.g. "Shutdown" mode), every few minutes the monitor would turn on briefly (led becomes green, monitor clicks and I can hear the static discharge) -- for just a few seconds -- and before it has a chance to warm up, it falls into DPMS sleep again. Then it keeps sleeping for a few minutes - and then it turns on briefly again, and so on...
The monitor ends up turning on and off 200 times during one night and it doesn't feel very healthy for it, so for now I disable DPMS.
I've seen a few people complaining about this but so far nobody has provided a solution. Maybe some NVIDIA guy would step in?
BTW, I'm using version 1.0.4349 (this happened with previos versions too). It doesn't happen to me with the "nv" driver (the one provided with XFree86 4.3.0) with otherwise identical settings.
