View Full Version : Been running Vista for some time now and...
Ok, I've been running Vista for over a month now and I have to say that once you turn off every thing that makes Vista, Vista, it runs just like XP. The problem is, why get Vista if you have to turn every thing off to make it run like the OS you just "upgraded" from? Other than that, it is just fine. No crash problems or stability problems.
The biggest complaint I have about Vista is the look. I hate looking at washed out folders and text boxes. I can turn down the gamma, and the brightness but it doesn't help it. It is like this on every Vista screen I've seen. It just bugs me to no end.
I got Vista for the DX10 games coming out this fall but I really would have liked to stay with XP and I just don't like dual booting. Vista is not the end of the world (as some geeks cry) but it isn't that great either.
Mine looks crisp and very clear. You sure your not spending to much time (See my sig) hmmm? :D
My desktop, apps and games are all very rich in color with nvcp at default color settings, and my monitor is at 80% brightness.
And turning the features off isn't switching Vista to XP, just quiets it down a bit. Still very happy with it, although I loved XP too.

Same, XP looks washed out and aged compared to Vista on my rig as well as my notebook.
Not sure what's going on with your Udawg, what system are you using it with?
IMO Vista looks way way better then the old boring XP.
Not a prob at all here..you just buy a better Monitor mate ;)

Agreed! I've been dual booting since Jan, but Vista is good enough to uninstall XP now IMO. It's been 2-3 weeks without XP now and i've not missed it one bit. Sure, Vista has it's niggles, but it's past the point of being a real problem, and it's only gonna get better!

I'll take a screen shot this evening and post it. Every thing looks good except for windows with white back ground. It even looked that way at default setting. I have a nice new 21" Samsung monitor. So the monitor is hardly the issue. http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=computersperipherals&type=monitors&subtype=lcd_multifunction&model_cd=LS21DPWAB/XAA
Here is another example. When I look at this forum the quoted boxes look just as white as the posts. They should be gray but they are not. Nothing I do changes it and it bugs me to no end.
And no I haven't been fapping Grey. :D
I was just kidding around about the mon :)
Annyway I was thinking the same when I was starting using Vista ..eh have you disabled clear font and smooth edges ?
With both of them on it looks blurry so disabled them and you should be fine I think..atleast that did it for me.

I'll look into that. Thanks for the tip.
What are your monitors settings and are you using vga or dvi?
I would guess that your monitor settings are out of whack. I have a Samsung LCD that I adjusted to use with my X-Box 360. When I hooked it up to one of my older computers the other day Vista folders were burning my retinas just like you're saying. Changing the color settings back to default made it go away.

I'll look into that. The problem is the colors have been tuned but I am not ruling this out. Also the monitor's color scheme has not been changed from when I had XP on the puter. I'll give it a shot. It sounds like the right area to me.
I am using DVI.

Vista has looked and ran fine for me ever since I installed it. Have you tried reinstalling your video card drivers? How about your monitor drivers? Are you running at your monitors native resolution?

Vista looks clean and crispy on my laptop and monitor. Don't know what's the problem.

LOL! I know but man I hate it when people do that. It is as if they are saying "HEY MY STUPFFF WORKS, YOU MUST HAVE MANURE FOR BRAINS IF UZ CAN'T URZ TO WERK!"
I don't think he meant it that way but it I have see a lot of people do that.
Some times things just need tweaking on different systems do to drivers, or hardware. It just happens. I know the fix for the problem is very simple but I thought I would ask since I hadn't really looked into it.

I know- you just have an obsession with "LOL"- can't help but pick on you cause of it. :D
I'm out of ideas as to what might be your problem. Best of luck fixing it though.

The fix was as simple as I thought. I changed the Color Tone on my monitor from Normal to Cool. That didi the trick.
Thanks for the input guys. This makes looking at the file folders and menu tree a pleasure now.
Nice then your all set to enjoy the Power of Vista as the rest of us :D
