John Carmack gives a walk through of how the id Tech 5 engine works & how it will benefit game development.
He also gives a hands on preview of how artists will interact with the MegaTexture to add detail to the game world.

He also mentions that Rage will ship with "id studio", the tools they used to develop Rage.

The look of metal and skin appear rubbery - reminiscent of the D3 engine. This is a single model and it's early days yet for both the engine and the game. Just an observation.

I'm guessing this isnt coming out this year? Anyone know when?

Probably August 2008 or something. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

Engine looks like a step-up from Doom 3, character models have a Doom 3-ish look... except a heck lot more detailed. You can tell it's Carmack's engine though :p

Some ppl say it looks just a little better then the Doom3 engine..what should I say LOL pleeeaze

It looks out of this world even a blind man can see it looks just as a CGI Movie.

Cant wait this is defenetly next next gen as Carmac says. It crush everything before it cant be compared to annything we seen before.

Carmac is the Wizard thats for sure.
And yes one can see that its a Carmac engine but now in a very good way :D

I am impressed by the trailer! very good. I know a lot of folks have something against the doom 3 engine but I liked it for what it was trying to do in the games it was designed for. This rage engine looks pretty damn good to me in action.
I liked the fly at the beginning of the trailer.. cool design.

I'm sick of bunch of ****ing morons on this forum. Dude look at the ****ing guy in the first two pictures. That's the best rendered face ever seen on PC so far...

Alittle offended that I have a different opinion are we? Sorry but I will have to continue to disagree, while it has probably some of the most polygons on a face I have ever seen it has some of the worse texture work on the face I have seen on a high end game.

You could go find another forum, where intellects and personal opinion align more closely to yours....

Agreeing with MaguS. I love the detail, but Id's skin texture always has that "look" that just doesn't add to realism. Still way early though, and I more than likely will snag this anyway. looks different than the usual run n gun.

With ID's track record, I'm always interested in what they are doing as they are always leading edge.

As with all new games/screenshots/etc, the so called game critics will always appear to trash whatever is out there. It seems that's what they live for instead of playing the games. It's just the way it is and I pay no mind to it.

The worst part of it is that game sales are affected by this head hunting attitude because many poors sobs wont buy games because they listen too much to these people instead of thinking for themselves.

The engine isn't about graphics. It's supposed to be easier to code for and performance hits are lessened. Geez. Can't you people read up on things?

Ths skin just doesn't look organic. Even SOURCE which isn't exactly cutting edge anymore is able to render visually organic surfaces with high res textures.

Furthermore, Crysis will raise the bar come November.

I'm aware the game isn't about graphics, but it simply isn't the best face I have seen rendered on PC.

Crysis looks the best as I think its more natural looking especially the faces.

LOL- and to think people actualy believe that this "RAGE" game is going to crush Crysis in the graphics department.

well I may have been over exited about the gfx ..I have a tendency to jump the gun hehe.

You are right guys it looks like crap compared to the Crysis face/texturing
Really hope the game will have a lot more detaild texures then this.

I'm aware the game isn't about graphics, but it simply isn't the best face I have seen rendered on PC.

ID software didn't have a goal to approach human looking face, but more between a human looking face and zombi looking face. We are looking at two excellent rendered faces. What are you basically doing is that you are comparing the colors. The Tech5 face looks more green, and other one has more a natural color to it.
The major difference between Crysis and Tech5 engine is that your high end card will run Crysis like a crap compared to Tech5 simply because DX API is nothing but 'crap'. Pixel Shadder, Displacement Mapping - all great features...but! Now if you think that 40FPS with high details with disabled AA is a good performance...not for me...it's a crap. Basically with DX you have to wait a new or two generations after to play without problem. With openGL games you're ready.

Anyway Crysis from gameplay point of view is going to be a great game to play. The only thing which i don't like is given ability to run around in Doom 2 speed style mode. I don't like it at all...because it looks like you're a Predator.

I think the face in ID5 is amazing. In some ways it is worse than the cryengine shots, but in some ways it is better. For some reason ID's engines have a tendancy to use some really interesting lighting/look. They look very "cg" and organic, for lack of a better word. I actually prefer the look of the ID Tech5 to crysis at this point, though I would agree that technically the cryengine2 is an amazing piece of work. Also, the eyes on the IDTech shot look absolutely amazing. They have depth!

The only part of your post I agree with is the eyes in ID Tech5- I never noticed that till now, and that is incredible. But no, the face does not have a more "organic CG" appearance to it, unless you tend to hang with the goth crowd. The skin in IdTech5 is too plastic looking, and lacks the more natural looking tones that CryEngine2 offers. But, as you mentioned earlier, the eyes in IdTech5 are outstanding- I'd love to see that kind of detail to the eye in Crysis- that'd make for a near perfect rendering of a human face- in my opinion.

And hell_of_doom, no where is it documented that you won't be able to run Crysis on a GTX with high settings but low framerates- every thing else indicated otherwise. Furthermore, you are taking one game and applying it to all DX based titles. Look at HL2- that ran flawless on the high end hardware upon its release with highest possible in-game settings, CoD2 ran great- I could continually list DX titles that run fine that are DX if you like.
