YaaY! A new dash update mentioned on Major Nelson's blog and a decent one at that.

Dashboard Update (aka the 1080p fix)

The next time you sign into Xbox Live, you’ll be prompted for a dashboard update. The update contains:

* Improved support for HD video output over VGA, including 1080p resolution
* Improved plug and play performance for wired headsets when being used with wireless controllers
* Changes made to recently played games list to improve accuracy

This update is being rolled out across the world, so you may not get it exactly at this moment, so be patient.

Edit: Apparantly some people have displays that are having issues with this update. This is being investigated.

May not be a YAY! for everyone.

Native support for 16:10 resolutions like 1440x900, or Microsoft keeps forgetting it so we all by Tv?

Nope.

I notice no difference in 1080p VGA output...

I think it's a compatibility update not something you will see if 1080P over VGA already worked for you.

Those Spring/Fall X360Dash Updates are tricky, they have messed up a few 360 units here and there. I'd wait about updating.

If your 360 is hooked upto the router constantly, it's pretty hard to avoid updating.

It's why I don't always have mine connected. :D

Mine gets a shared connection from my HTPC which is through wireless.

I think the OP linked to an old update. I checked out the site and I see that THIS (http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/08/07/xbox-360-system-update-august-07.aspx) is the discription of the new update. It seems very minor and only adds wireless guitar support. The 1080P post is referencing a December 06 date.

I probably did link the wrong thing, doh!

Well it improves 1080p support and something to do with the Wireless headsets... apparently.

Installed the update, my 360 works as usual. Nothing to see here, move along.

Updated yesterday evening and didn't notice a difference. Hooray for VGA I guess.

As I mentioned before the recent update had nothing to do with VGA 1080P support. All it did was add wireless guitar support... that's it!

Your right....

Now why on earth has 1080p support over VGA suddenly decided to work properly? ...and not just with my 360.

Must be something to do with the last update I guess, something is definately up.

Did this update break the shutdown but keep downloading option? It doesn't seem to work for me anymore.

Works fine for me. Downloaded the Bioshock demo in Low Power mode.

for some reason, Guitar Hero II doesnt display as full screen. theres black bars on the top/bottom and sides. only happens over VGA, component fixes the issue (on my 2407).

anyone else have this issue?

I get black bars in component on my 16:10 720p hdtv. Doesn't really bother me too much, kind of weird that it's the only game to do it.

it supports 1080p, maybe that has something to do with it?

Shouldn't you always have black bars on 720p 16:10 TV as 720p is generally a 16:9 resolution and your screen proably has a native resolution of 768p.

That's what I kinda figured was going on, but the bars are only there in gh2.

I know that the X360 treats component and VGA different. On my fullscreen monitor, over VGA all the games play with the black bars. Yet using component (or, I'll admit, on my friends SD TV, even RCA) the same exact game will play in fullscreen without bars. I dunno exactly why, but over VGA games just appear to play in widescreen regardless of the games ability to play fullscreen. That's why I bought a 2407 like you. Bars got annoying!

Also, if you're getting bars on the side as well, that might mean that the game is playing in at a smaller resolution than the monitor, and your 2407 is in "1:1" rather than "aspect" or "fill"

Question: on your 2407, do you get burry text? Well, not blur, but shadows. In games and on the dashboard, there is always like a faint outline (very faint) of text/graphics a tiny bit to the right of them. This is over VGA at 1900xwhatever
