The 8800 was the smart choice. I am not certain of Sparkle quality though. Good luck with the build.

I own both. At this point I cannot recommend the 2900XT. Not in a fan boy way either, just an honest comparison of results, the 2900XT is lagging so far behind a GTX its sad.

+1. The 8800 GTX has made a believer out of me. :D
ATI/AMD has so many problems there is a real chance of bankruptcy or takeover.
This generation Nvida's 8800 series is superior as even ATI has admitted.

Can't go wrong with either the XT or the GTX. The 2900XT is a great card in its own right, but don't expect to hear that response from too many on an nvidia fansite.
I've had both the GTX & XT and still find the performance of the XT to be pretty good. Especially if you volt-mod it like I have mine.

Errr- you can go FAR wrong if the comparison is between these two cards.
Comparatively, the 2900XT is like some sad joke.:thumbdwn:
You won't hear the 2900XT is a comparable product to a 8800GTX from anyone but a 2900XT owner is more like it. Check out all the reviews on the net if you don't believe me.

I don't need to "check out the reviews"; I owned both cards, know-it-all, and also have friends with GTXs. So I go by personal experience and not what some dolt on some review site says who may be receiving compensation under the table.
You're speaking to someone who owned 8800GTX SLI for 7 months. I know exactly what GTX is capable of and how well it performs. Check out my build log here where I had two of them watercooled back in February:

And I never said it was "comparable"; I simply said that it's still a good performer even when it's overshadowed by the GTX. Especially when you can volt-mod it to 900 on the core like I have mine. The gap decreases substantially.

My, you're defensive.
Your post is misleading. 2900XTs pretty much suck compared to 8800GTXs.
Nice try with the "the reviewers are all paid off!" conspiracy theory, but when pro ATi review sites like Driver Heaven say the 2900XT suck, you can pretty much bet they suck.
(they were the guys who burned a 6800Ultra for fun)
The 2900XT sort of compares to the 8800GTS, but the 8800GTX mops the floor with it.

Well there you have it, folks. An Nvidia focus group member says it, so it must be true. The Word of Truth has finally arrived; everyone bow to its wisdom.

Nice try again, but like I said, don't believe me, check out all the INDEPENDENT review sites!
Ooops...forgot....ATi doesn't have a product this generation, so the review sites are all paid off! Even the ones that were singing ATi's praises last gen! NVIDIA only decided to pay them now to hide the GREAT SECRET of 2900XTs being worth a damn...

Chill out guys sheesh.
@Xion X2: Remember that the kind of over-clocking you are talking about should only be done by people with extra $$$ to throw around, not to mention the quality of over-clock depends greatly on the manufacturing of your card throughout.
Out of the box the GTX and lets not forget the Ultra are better performing cards. ATI had it's hay day with the 9700/9800 & a solid showing with the X1900, but nVidia has trumped them this time around. This is not nVidia fan boy talk this is simply the way things are right now.
