hmm i dont know whats going on but vista32 runs fine with 2 gig of either set seperatley, but when all 4 gig is installed vista blue screens - even after a fresh vista install
vista loads with the 4 gig and reports it as 3.2gig (i dont mind that) but its the blue screening that ticks me off
ive tried the kb929777 it doesnt do squat
any suggestions ?
my specs are in my sig

Ppl reports problems with this mobo+4GB+X-FI. Do you have a X-FI? Have you tried to relax the memory timings? Lastest Bios?

You need Vista 64bit to if you want 4gb of ram to work correctly. Plus the newest X-Fi drivers do not work with 4gb of memory. I had to roll back.
may i ask why you decided against 64 bit?
if you want to use 4GB of RAM, 64 bit is the way to go.

I'm fairly happy with 3.2GB on XP. I've tried Vista 64 several times (I really, REALLY want to stick with it), but between Vista and Vista 64 specific issues I just couldn't stick with it. It's not as horrible as most whiners make it out to be, but it still has enough things that rub me the wrong way.

no im still using an old creative sb live value :P
(maybe, but i doubt it could be this?) , ive had it working great with 2 gig
and yes ive tried upping the voltage to the ram by 0.2v and tried setting the 800 ram to 667
still no go..
Hmm im pulling my hair out, especially because microsoft has addressed this issue and even has a patch...but it doesnt work for me http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777

I doubt this is a problem but have you ran a mem test on the ram?, One of your sticks could be bad, use vista memory test or memtest 86 or whatever its called, but check your memory as that could be your problem, Just sounds odd that it works fine at 2GB but when you use all it crashes,,
Also disable dual channel and see if that does anything?

ok i got it working
for future readers who are having the same issue
1. removed old soundblaster live from the system - now using onboard sound
2. enabled advanced bios settings on gigabyte m/b settings by pressing ctrl-f1 and setting an option for HT-width from 16bit to 8bit
1 of these 2 solutions worked for me
Thanks for all your input :)

Maybe you should have a go at putting your HT-width back at 16 bit and see if it works. Its just that you're gonna probably get a pretty hefty performance hit with it set like that, and it only takes a few mins to check it out.

SB Live works in Vista at all?? wow
This is what we would get if AMDTI goes out of business. Nvidia would become as shoddy as Creative.
