Decided on a Asus P5K3 Deluxe mb, 2GB of DDR3-1333 XMS3, E6850 cpu all in a CM Stacker 830.

The stacker also comes with a 1000watt psu for $399:

Probably not since you're not going quad and you're only going for 2GB. Do you really want to go DDR3? I guess it makes sens since you're on DDR1 right now.

Trying to future-proof it some. The mb is ddr3 only and should handle intel's 45nm processor when released. Thats when I'll start looking at quad. Also, I'll add another 2GBs of ddr3 ram once it matures.

Good plan then. Too bad DDR3 prices are so high. You might even want to consider Gigabyte's board with four DDR2 slots and two DDR3, since by the time DDR3 prices settle the 2x2GB kits will be reasonable.

I looked at that one and the asus p5kc which also has 2-ddr3 slots and 4-ddr2 slots. Tempting, but didn't want the, eventually, extra ddr2 ram lying around. So I bit the bullet on the first two gigs. The p5k3 deluxe can handle up to 8GB ddr3.
