View Full Version : Nvidia tapes out G92.
http://www.tcmagazine.info/comments.php?shownews=15755&catid=2
GeForce money making chip designed Nvidia has worked in silence and solitude and managed to tape out its upcoming high-end-oriented G92 chip on schedule. The 65nm part is set to power the high-end models of the GeForce 9 series and will bring PCI-Express 2.0 support for Nvidia cards.
The first G92 cards will arrive sometime in November and will replace the GeForce 8800 GTX and Ultra at the top of the graphics chain. The chip's specifications are still up in the air but one can expect significantly more transistors than on the G80 and more Stream Processors. And if we're really lucky, a 512-bit memory bus. Wait for it
Woot!!! :captnkill:

There have been scattered reports of some trouble with the initial chip... hopefully that's wrong.

Do you have any links out of interest?

haha so the 8 series was pretty much completely unnecessary?
Not really. NVidia releases a new series every 14 to 15 months, so if the G92s come out in January or February NVidia would be right on schedule.
The 8 series was very necessary for the year or so it wasn't obsolete. :)

No more unnecessary than any other generation of GPU...

looking again, can't find em....may have been imagining that lol

It was a fabulous card that did what it was supposed to do: it's a powerhouse @ DX9 games and runs DX10 games.
I think that it's totally necessary and the BEST card Nvidia's put out so far.

well for sure the best card they've put out, but will it ever get a fair chance to test itself? i guess it will for a month or two with bioshock, crysis, etc.

Don't worry, that was a report from The Inq ;)

Well they eventually do get some things right I suppose.

I agree completely, the 8800 GTX is the best video card I've ever owned.

Remember, to every rumour, there has to be a grain of truth.

is 9800gts gonna have a less than 512bit memory bus? or just lower frequency.
512 on the bus and, it's from the inq but I still want to believe it's true, 800+mhz on the gpu :bugeyes:
There was always speculation about an G92 aimed between 8600GTS and 8800GTS and an G92-X2 aimed for top High-End. I don't see 512-bit bus coming, but let's see ;)

I would like to know the shader clock.
The G80, with 1.35 GHz & 128 stream processors, delivers around 345 GFlops (using MADDs).
If the G92 is going to deliver around 1 TFlop, then, they should have raised the shader clock freq, or added more SPs, or added more ALUs to each SP unit.
1.35 GHz x 256 SPs x 3 ops >= 1 TFlop
2.00 GHz x 256 SPs x 2 ops >= 1 TFlop
2.00 GHz x 192 SPs x 3 ops >= 1 TFlop
I love the G80 architecture. It's very efficient.
Good luck, I doubt NVIDIA knows the shader clock yet. I'm sure they've set targets, but it'll have to depend on yields for production silicon.

Hmmm, mine's worked well on CoH, SupCom, STALKER, DiRT, FSX, QW:ET, and now it's flying through BioShock...

What ever happened to SLI v2 ?
Perhaps that might make an apperance too....

Love my GTS,plays Bioshock @ 1920x1200 maxxed damn well
I think the 192 x 2Ghz is closest.
I see more like 160 x 4 ops with DP

<-- Still waiting for a killer DX10.1 mid range card from Nvidia to replace my trusty 7600GT. Was hoping it was going to be available in time for Crysis but i guess ill have to wait.
November can't get here soon enough. Must have more powah! :D
Still no official word though. Hmm...
