Can anyone tell any difference betweek dx9 and dx10 visuals ?

I have a dual boot setup and played the game under vista and xp and all I can say is that I see no missing graphics at all under dx9 AND Anti Aliasing works. 4xaa under xp stays close to 60fps most of the game so far (just got to medical pavilion) while under vista with no aa it slows down due to triple buffering issues. Clearly to me this game is better under xp. Am I missing something ?

BTW I used fraps under vista and xp and compared MANY screenshots of the same places. I cannot see any difference accept no jaggies and WAY smoother fps under xp...

I have the latest beta drivers for my 8800 ultra under vista and xp...

I've noticed some more effects with the water and the shadows are a bit better.

I dont really think that those that choose to use the dx9 mode+aa are missing out on something(except the jaggies)

Btw do you need to use xp for the aa to work, you can run bioshock in dx9 in vista too

well after installing the beta drivers I can tell the difference but it's not a day and night change so dx9.0c people are not missing much :)

Direct X 10 sounds a LOT cooler.

Water moves dynamically in DX10, so if you walk through it, it ripples and distorts correctly. So it has density. Soft edges for particles and crisper shadow edges and better texture surfaces. Water in DX10 pwns DX9 IMO.
I've been having fun just pushing items around in some water with depth and watching the water break around the item as it moves forward. Amazing :)

Speaking of sound, you mean that noise you hear going in and out during fights? :p

Would be cool to see a video of that showing the difference.

Has anybody checked if there is any performance difference between dx9 and dx10?

Probably the differences are that the adjustment of the brigh is different in the three, in the 360 has blur- edge AA

I definitly can't tell a difference with that video. But you know what the rule is around here, if you don't have DX10, you aren't cool. Apparently, I'm not cool . . . yet :( .

I have taken screens in game of both dx9 and 10 and I can not tell any difference. If it is that small of a difference then I think I will take the smooth as butter dx9 game with AA.

Then you are either blind as a bat or dont wont to see the differences because you are stuck with a toy box console.

There were better smoke effects and such in DX10 vs DX9.

Ok better smoke effects. Better smoke or no jaggies ?

All I can tell is the textures are a little crisper and the water ripples around your feet. Not quite the difference i'd hoped for but hey :o

I take it the full game is graphically the same as the demo!?

Yeah that vid was to bit too pants to tell really.

I'm cool, lol, but not that overwhelmed with graphical beauty.

Crysis is still gonna be the DX10 DADDY though. Quite huge differences with DX10 over DX9 looking at the pics!

I saw more crisp textures, better reflections (or at least, better textured reflections) better smoke, better water, and better shadows.

Shadows look a little better in DX10 , but Vegas can do that on just DX9.

Soft Particles. Apparently it doesnīt show the full effect in screenshots but in motion the soft particles donīt break through the meshes of 3D objects

More detailed shadows.

Instead of using flat 2D textures, the water ripples look a lot more realistic.

http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/3181/wakeqx3.th.jpg (http://img521.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wakeqx3.jpg)

Again, instead of using 2D textures, the water surface reacts to moving objects far more realistic and apparently these effects support proper light reflection and refraction as well.

No major changes compared to DX9 but once Iīve seen them, I wonīt go back to DX9 at all. Some of the DX9 effects (especially the ones with the 2D textures on the water) are kind old and lame looking after seeing them in direct comparision and yes Iīm pretty much aware that they could have done most of the effects in DX9 as well, but thats not the point and case with Bioshock.

Interesting, when you see it like that it's damn clear how big the difference is, but in games there's little time to notice.

Cheers for the pics :D

Thing is those effects are nothing special, we have plenty of DX9 games that show off even better effects for water then those.

I can't think of any game that has better water effects than this. OK, it could be better but it's still the best to date IMO!
