Im in the process of building a new pc and I settled for a Asus P5K and now I thought I decided on the CoreDuo E6850 but now Im leaning towards Q6600. Its for gaming, so will a 2 core 3.0Mhz be better that the 2.4Mhz Q6600? Or will quad be the better way to go? thanks, Im pairing it with a 8800GTX Ultra.

I would take a quad-core over a dual-core even with the differences in speed. You can always add more speed by overclocking whereas you can't add the other cores.

If you arent gonna overclock (that proc can hit 3.6ghz easily), then probably the quad would be better

Quad FTW!

Although even with a G0, don't expect to overclock much. I'm at 3Ghz with mine, but come summer, I'll probably be down to stock again. :(

My personal opinion would be to go with a e6750 and overclock to 3.2GHz EASILY and probably up to 3.6GHz.

For gaming that would be a better choice than quad core for game NOW. In 6 months it might make sense to upgrade to a Penryn quad core if the overclocking headroom is there.

Quad core then OC it to 3Ghz

Get a good cpu cooler. Tuniq tower 120 or the Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme super duper cooler thing and stuff.

I would go with the Quad6600 more and more games are going to be useing muti-cores for better performance ,It may be just in my head but I still think all my games run better on a Q6600 then they did with my E6600 at the same Clock speed. The GO are supposed to be better overclocker then the B3 .I have a B3 Q6600 and it runs overclock to 3280 with default voltage 1.26v settings. At 1.425v my is very stable at 3.5gigs.Plus I have the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme with a 110cfm silverstone fan and they do work good ,I had a Zalman 9500 and the Thermalright Ultra-120 runs 12c cooler.
