View Full Version : overclocking on vista

I NEED to overclock my video card. Since MS decided everything should have signed drivers, there is no way to do it. How am I supposed to play the new games coming out at my native lcd res without it? I need eye candy! When I overclocked my 8800gtx, I could hit 621(actual) core/1512 shader/2000 memory.
Does XP x64 handle quad core well? If it does then screw vista. They need to do something about this ASAP. Also, I want Core Temp to be able to run.
WHY DO THEY DO THIS TO US!?!?!?!?!?

riva tuner works fine here... did you install the new windows updates that break the driver signing work around?... and yes XP supports quad core... the only purpose to vista is dx10...

Get NiBiTor from http://www.mvktech.net/ and overclock via modded BIOS:

why not just use vista ultimate 32 bit like i do , all the overclocking tools work...............i have never understood why anyone would need or want a 64 bit system.........most people over at guru and here mostly use there computers for games , in which case 64 bit has no advantages, other than it can support more ram , which as of at this present time is not needed.

64 bit will come in handy and have performance benefits eventually

I have 4gb of memory, only 64bit will recognize it all. Why not use it if you have it? I already modded my video card bios and flashed it so no more OC problems.

I'll be pimping my current rig when everyone else has ddr5 compatible motherboards, Thats why I chose 64bit.
As for 4gb not needed ,I dont share that opinion.

Many recent games need almost 2GB of memory for themself. Add 1GB for Vista OS, and you need at least 3GB of RAM installed. As 2x1GB + 2x512B is odd amount to purchase, people have 4x1GB or 2x2GB (and utilise it fully only by using Vista x64). 2GB became mainstream (Vista x86), 4GB enthusiast (Vista x64)..

1GB for vista , where did you pull that from ??plus if you didn't know vista will try and use all the available ram untill a 3D application is used then it will free it all up , thats how vista works ...........i use vista ultimate 32 bit , i only have 27 proccesses running and use a little over 300MB while on desktop, then even most of that will free up once a game starts.

I had 2gb ram on vista x64 and it used up 900mb on startup. After playing a game it nearly used up 2gb. When that use to happen i always hear the HDD go crazy. Now that i have 4gb its perfect.
I don't know what version of vista your running because i have seen vista on 10 different machines and not even one of them had a little over 300mb on desktop and thats with 1gb system ram. You must have every feature disabled or your talking out your ass.

Vista x64 takes *much* more memory, pointers are twice the width, and both x64 kernel and 32bit layer must be loaded into RAM..

aggresive little prick arnt you ??................my vista machine has and never will be connected to the internet, its my gaming machine , i don't play online and as i have 4 pc's if i ever need patches or updated i download them with my other computers..........so what does this tell you ?? well i don't need anti spyware /firewalls defenders /anything to do with networking modems,
in fact you are almost right , i still have areo , so on the face of it it workd just like vista ultimate should , other than all that other crap that is not needed.............thats why i only have 27 processes funning and 338MB ram usage..........i have 2GB ram installed on this 32bit system............and BTEW if you want to know , it runs as fast in games but looks a lot better than XP................
