View Full Version : Vista does not see my DVD-ROM !?
I'm dual booting with XP & Vista , though with Vista it dosent read my DVD-ROM which is perfectly working in XP. whats wrong ??
(btw there was a drive letter conflict & i changed it .. still that didnt fix the preblem)
Without knowing more....
Maybe you have SATA hard drives and IDE DVD drives ??? - IDE not enabled?
Or Vice Versa?
2 SATA HDDs & IDE DVD-ROM yes , but its perfectly working under XP.
after some searching it appears to be a well-known vista issue. there is a temp registry fix for it , but that aswell didnt work for me as the needed reg key is not there :(
i dont know what to do :|

i dont know what to do :|Are your DVD drives on the primary or secondary IDE port?
Also, do they not show up in the Disk Manager utility in Vista either?
How about the chipset drivers? Did you try the latest nVidia chipset drivers? I'm using the ones recommended by Windows Update.
I dual boot same as you and also have SATA HD and IDE DVD. DVD is on IDE primary.

- Its on the primary.
- It dosent show in the disk/device manager though it shows up in BIOS & WinXP.
- Chipset is 965 , but i didnt check for the chipset drivers or updates. thats a good suggestion ... i'll take a look there & see if there are any new vista updates.
thanks for all the suggestions! :)

thanks for all the suggestions! :)No problem. I just did a similar update a few weeks ago when I updated my IDE drives to SATA. I reinstalled Vista with XP and kept my IDE DVD drives. Plus we have close to similar rigs. Let me know how the drivers turned out. I'm always curious to the solutions in case I encounter the same problems again. :)

I checked Abit's website for any chipset updates & found nothing that is Vista related.
i updated BIOS too .. still that didnt fix the problem :thumbdwn:

You can try a firmware update on the actual drive, you need to identify the manufacturer and model number and see if there are any firmware updates.

Checked & found no firmware update since 2004. even that update is not to be found or downloaded anywhere as the manufacturer's link dosent work anymore

well JLMS was old partnership between Lite-On and JVC.
JLMS XJ-HD165H is the same as Liteon LTD-165H
you can download the latest firmware from here
http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=142656
if it ask you for account, just use
user: drivers
password: all
(you will get a message your account expired, on bottom just press to ignore and continue)
