View Full Version : Windows Validation Issue
Has anyone else running Vista run into this issue? This all happened last night when I installed BioShock, did a reboot to see if that helped the BioShock error (BioShock.exe has stopped working.), and some Windows updates had installed during the reboot.

So, I'm thinking this has to do with one of the updates that happened during the reboot. People are pointing to Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.21.2842.4) as being the source of the issue.
So, as of right now, my machine is not validated. :(

No issues here.
I called the number to reactivate my machine ("slui.exe 4" from a command prompt) and tried validating at http://www.microsoft.com/genuine, but that was a no go as well.
I sent an email with the information from the WGA Diagnostic Tool to Microsoft. Hopefully, I'll get a response soon.

It happened to me 3 months ago after some Windows Update hotfix (from May 23rd, 2007), Windows was activated, but NOT genuine.

To solve this, type "slui 4", call hotline, reactivate, restart your computer, go to microsoft.com/geniune, verify your Windows, restart again. It works then.
I had to reactivate windows after a recent update for defender, not sure which one it was though. I got 2 in 2 days. It went smoothly though.
I tried what you guys have suggested, and it hasn't worked. But, Microsoft seems to be looking at the issue finally.

Validation is working fine for me now. :)

This works on LGA but I'm not sure it's possible to upgrade WGA to LGA without dropping most of the proprietary stuff. ;)

So whole "big problem" with WGA (not being able to see Aero, no reduced functionality) concerned only 12,000 people worldwide, and was fixed within the same day:
