Whatever happened to the G80's super upper feature : the "Quantum Physics" which was hyped along the G80's introduction ??!!
so far i see no mention of it nor any games that use it .. expcet perhaps for Hellgate : London ? & that game is not out yet which means its unproven.

so can we say the QP is nothing but another marketing gimmick ?

I think maybe that cascades uses it but I am not 100% sure.

Yea, I believe Hellgate is the first title to use it.

I doubt we'll see many (if any) games using this except for the odd "nvdia hardware accelerated particle physics" thrown in to beef up the feature list.

Yeah, afaik thats what it always was..
a marketing name for the ability to run physics on the GPU.. via for example HavokFX.
DX10 GPUs are flexible enough to have a desired number of SPs running physics while the rest still does the graphics.. and they got their own caches and whatnot..
Atleast thats the way I understand it.

Its not a dedicated physics unit or anything like that afaik.
And as Jakup sais, since they ran Smokebox simulations on GPU, that was basicly "quantum physics" I guess.
hehe missread jakups post.. cascades did on the fly geometry generation on GPU I belive..
Smoke box does physics on GPU I think.
