Hello all :captnkill:

Just a quick question.

If I upgrade my CPU to a q6600 and overclock, get another 2gb of DDR2 and buy 2x500gb sata2, do you think that this will run games for another 8 months?

I know penyrn is coming out soon, but I have exams etc.

Opinions?

Oh yeah.

Are these good?

Razer Baracuda HP-1

cheers. My finger is hovering over the buy button.

I need it for 3d sound in games (css etc)

and for some music, though games are more important.

The mic is important as well.

cheers

Get the money you'd spend on a Q6600 and stick it in the bank until Penryn comes out.

Seriously, I don't know how you got 3.8Ghz on an E6420, but in all but a few quad-core optimized games you're going to be losing speed by going to a Quad... unless you manage to hit 3.8Ghz on the Q6600 as well (which is possible, but not likely, and definitely not at reasonable temperatures).

Your CPU will last a very long time as it is. Stash that CPU money away until quad cores are worth it and the next line is available.

To answer your question though, yes I think your system will easily last 8 months with or without the upgrade...

CaptN is right, although depending on where you live Q6600s are cheap as chips these days. I got mine for 350AUD, which is only a few dollars more than a E6600. So if you really want to go Quad it should be a huge deal, but waiting is probably your best option if you current CPU overclocks so well.

LoL... just by getting some more ram you will probably be fine for 8 months with your system specs anyways if that CPU overclock of yours holds out :)

First time I've ever seen or heard that before.

Not like Penryn's going to annihilate a q6600 by that much. You'd still be ahead of 90% of the computing world with those specs 1 year from now.

sorta :(

belive it or not, I just hate the idea that my CPU chip is the same as some cheapass dell.

Sort of under values the esteem of my rig.

Have to say on the other hand though, my chip seems to be fairly unique. Its running fairly hot at 50oc but is several days stable. You should have seen my old pentium 4  Before I ungraded I hit 4.75Ghz (with zalman 9700). However I Had lapped that one, and it was one of the rarer 65nm ones.

Still......

I remember the difference though. I was getting 8k with the P4. Then I overlocked my C2D and I hit 13k :D

Those were the days.

Hmm. I don't think your PC will last another day.

Get a QX6700X, another XGTXX, a few GB of XRAM, some more RaptorsX and RAIDX them (for no performance gain... just for looks here), and a KW PSU immediately. I'm not sure how you're surviving with such an archaic system.

buff is right. Buy more stuff with X in the name. X = better!

Oh yes it will. It's faster clock-for-clock by 15-20% and is on a 45nm process. You'll see easy overclocks in the 4.0-4.5GHz range compared to 3.2-3.6GHz for current quads.
