I have an Asus A7N266-VM motherboard with a GeForce2 integrated GPU chip. On hd0 I have win 2000 and Hd1 I have installed Red Hat 8, with the boot sector for RH at the begining of HD1.

I have to run RH8 setup in text mode because it can't figure out my video chip, which is fine. I can't use the Vesa or VGA driver as they don't work. My system just hangs.

I downloaded the latest driver for the video card (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4349.run) . I assume this is right, assuming an IA32 is what I have ?????

So I run the driver from rescue mode and it says it doesn't have code to match my kernal, which seems strange considering I have RH8 (2.4.18), which I thought was very common.

So it wants to connect to the web, but can't. Then it build the Kernal interface itself, but then after it building it, it says it couldn't load nvidia.o because it doesn't match. I have installed the source header files and all the development tools needed to run RPM's and the likes.

Any ideas?

Do you need more information.

Please help I am very stuck.

Boot RH8.0 fully into TEXT mode. The rescue mode doesn't load the FULL OS.

Then rerun the Nvidia installer. It should run ok this way.

at start up book into mode 3

ctrl-X at startup then type "linux 3"

then at the prompt load the installer and then edit XF86Config... should work...

I have the same setup (RH8 and mobo) so I know it works...
