View Full Version : A question from a retard :o

Sorry about asking such a dumbass question.

Im running Windows XP pro 32bit edition which I know doesnt recognise over 2gb of ram.

If I stuck in 4gb, would it make ANY speed difference in the slightest?

Im finding windows is quite slow to respond etc.

Is there any benifit in the slightest?

p.s im getting it for £60 so its not much :D

2 gigs should be fine on XP SOAD..if it's slow now I wouldn't think adding more ram would help, unless you have a ton of background apps running.

I'd solve this first, check your startup programs and services and nix what you don't need. See how that does.

Running a C2D chip at 3.8Ghz and complaining of things being slow sounds like an infected machine to me.

09-02-07, 12:34 AM
I'm running WinXP 32bit right now and it recognizes 3.25GB Ram. when was the last time you cleaned the registry and defragged windoows? for good measure, run anti-spyware/adware software as well. C2D at 3.8GHz and 2GB Ram should mak things zoom by, not lag! :)

Hint: Porn+IE=Slow computer.

unless youre runnin very RAM hungry apps, you wont notice a difference. save your cash and stick with 2GB.

2GB on XP is nice and fast :)

Maybe. In games, im getting what I should be getting, its just clicking on windows and what not that its laggy.

Its using 35% ram at idle.

I dont know. :headexplode:

p.s can I change my name to SOAD?

09-02-07, 06:36 PM
I'd do some spyware and virus scans on your PC. Defrag and clean any unwanted crap out your startup (run msconfig).

Your OS should be perfectly smooth with your specs.

09-02-07, 09:22 PM
As everyone else has said, do some spyware, malware, etc and a few other tests to see whats going on. Running a Core2, XP should runny snappy..really snappy.

Also, go to RUN -> MSCONFIG and disable anything that boots on startup that you don't need/want. That will help load times once you get into windows at least.

As far as going slow after that, CTRL + ALT + DEL and kill any processes in the task manager that you don't need

Also, an awesome program to use is CCleaner (Found here (http://www.ccleaner.com)) and Auslogics Disk Defrag. I prefer it over the standard one that comes with windows. That is found here (http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag/index.php).

Wouldn't hurt to just reformat. Doesn't take long at all and the newly installed O/S is like that new car smell, it's awesome.

Infected with spyware is my guess,I was having trouble with ET running well below my 125fps cap, dipping into the 50's.I ran superAntiSpyware free edition and it found a couple of problems,I let the program fix them and my fps is now back to 125+ fps.Spyware can really SLOW a machine to a crawl.
