View Full Version : Help with iTunes
When I import an album with various artists, if there are for example 20 tracks, the album view has the album split into 4-5 albums rather than grouping all 20 into the same album.
Anyone know how to fix this?

I think so.....instead of sorting your music by artist, sort it by "album by artist". Just click on the album heading as if you want to sort by album, and then click again. It will change to album by artist.
:o Your right, I had it sorted by artist. I don't know why, but I thought it was auto-sorting my music for me. Anyway, its sorted now. Thanks for the help.

Also helps to check that it is a compilation.
My next question is... how do I back up my collection?
Its currently 15gb... and will grow as I add more movies... up to the 80gb capacity of my ipod!
I don't really want to back up onto dvds... can I just copy the whole itunes folder somewhere and if I need to, copy it back or doesn't it work like that?

Yes. Just copy your iTunes folder to wherever.
I'm surprised some jackass hasn't been in here saying "The only way to get rid of your problem is to get rid of iTunes!" :D

^^What he said. Just copy the whole iTunes music folder somewhere. Although of course this is assuming that you have it set so that it copies all the music you add to your library into the itunes music folder. If not, in iTunes go Advanced > Consolidate Library. This will copy all your music into your itunes folder. Then just copy the whole folder somewhere.
I too am suprised about the lack of anti-itunes responses in this thread. Amazing!
Ok, thanks. When I first installed it I went through all of the options and I ticked copy everything to the itunes folder purely cause it sounded like a good idea. I'm glad I did now.
Personally, I'm not a big Apple fan... but I think iTunes is great. I've added all 400+ of my music tracks from various sources (Napster, store bought, iTunes shop) to my Library. I love the way you can flick through the albums by artwork. My music had always been a mess and I could barely put together a CD for the car.

not on topic
but i recently was called to help an older (35-40) year old lady with her iTunes. She never owned an iPod or used iTunes. I helped her set it up and everything.
Was pretty satisfying. :)

I've been using iTunes since 2001. I'm really anal about my music and the kbps, so I've only added albums I've bought and ripped in 320 ACC. I've got about 61 GBs of music. Not a single one downloaded! But damn, it does put a hole in your wallet. Best to buy them used.

I've only just realised some of my music is compressed and some is cd quality... I thought iTunes converted everything... I went for AAC format for the compressed items although I'm not sure how that compares to WMA which I usually use.

The only trouble is... its costing me a fortune... damn buying music from the comfort of your chair. :)

Sorry to piggyback on this thread, but I have an i-Tunes problem as well.
When I initially set up my library, I let it download album art from the web for the albums it didn't have art for. It downloaded the wrong ones in some cases, and I had to go thru and manually correct them (tried various utilities, with little success, but manually downloaded cover pictures and pointed i-Tunes to them). They appear correct in my library now (on the PC), but some are still incorrect on my iPod. I've completely wiped the iPod and re-sync'd with a playlist, and even scrapped the playlist and re-built it.
Any ideas why this would be happening?

Try setting your ipod to not sync album artwork so it can remove them all. When that is done, re-enable it and it should copy over the new ones.

Thanks, 99 to Life. I think I may have tried that, but it's been a while, so I'll do it again.
Anybody using iTunes with a Creative Zen Vision?
