I downloaded the 3 ISO's, and I can't get disc 1 to boot? Is this a common problem with self burnt CD's? Did I forget to install a file?
Check the MD5sums of the ISO's you downloaded. There's a chance that one (or all) of them is (are) corrupted.
If you search around, I think you'll be able to find an md5sum.exe program for Windows that you can use to check them.

Hey, this is real. When you download something of that length, bad things can happen.
Look at what happened to me, I had to download the first ISO 2 times, because on the first time I got a bad md5sum. Luckily, the other 2 ISOs had good md5sum's and so I didn't have to download them again.
Then I started burning. First ISO didn't burn properly and so it failed media check. So I had to burn it twice too, even while having 100% good ISO (as verified by md5sum of the image).
Moral of the story: first absolutely, DO verify the md5sum of the ISO, and second, when you install RH9, absolutely, DO run the media check on all 3 CD's. This is the only way to bring sanity into the process.
Here is a link to md5sum (http://downloads.activestate.com/contrib/md5sum/Windows/) for Windows. If you use Linux, chances are you already have md5sum on your box. Good luck. Oh, and if you are on a modem, why not just buy the box, or, if you are cheap, go to www.cheapbytes.com and buy the CDs there. No sense in suffering. It took me two days to download the stuff on a cable modem, with re-downloads and 9k/s upload speeds and me being unable to constantly babysit my box and all.

Thanks, makes me feel better to at least know it happens a lot! I don't have the patience to re-download Red Hat 9, my cousin's husband has it so i'll get it from him for my main system, but I am also trying slackware tonight on my laptop, let's hope this single Slackware iso cd I am downloading works!
Now this is funny. it turns out I was copying the ISO file directly to the CD, rather then burning a CD From the ISO file! lol I am installing Red Hat 9 now!:D
