I lost my Linux system (Mandrake 9.0) after upgrading to the latest linux drivers last week. /etc/modules.conf became corrupted, and probably other files in the system.
I decided to install Mandrake 9.1 after that. As soon as I installed and tried the linux drivers I had another corrupted Linux system. Nice :nono:
I reinstalled Mandrake 9.1 yesterday. After recovering all my files and reconfiguring everything, this evening I decided to use the official rpms from Mandrake instead of Nvidia's installer.
Guess the result?
As you might guess, I'm not impressed.
I'll reinstall my system tomorrow and you can bet I won't install any NVIDIA drivers in a while. If you need any more info apart from the one posted below, feel free to ask. Sorry, I don't include any messages from the logs, although I'll try to get them if you really need them (hey, after three systems crashed, one more seems nothing).

My system:
AMD Athlon XP 2000
Creative Geforce Ti 200 (according to Windows, Bios 3.20.00.20.03)
Gigabyte GA-7ZX-H motherboard.

Problem tested on MDK 9.0 and MDK 9.1 using the new Nvidia drivers (and installer). Also tried in MDK 9.1 using official rpms from Mandrake.

Logs would be useful to help figure out why your system developed corruption. Did you have a working system with a previous version of the NVIDIA drivers before installing 1.0-4349? It seems you did, but i'd like to make sure. Did you change any other settings on your system (like udma, sbios settings, etc) recently?

I've just tried to get the logs, but I think I won't be able to get them without losing another system, again. I can't get the logs out of my linux partition because, after the crash, I can't mount any filesystem other than reiserfs and, thus, I can't copy the log to a windows partition or floppy. I can't print them because the printer doesn't work (because of the crash) and I can't email them because, surprisingly, the network doesn't work.
Moreover, now, when I type startx, the X window crashes, but not the system. This is probably due to the fact that the kernel module is not being loaded (that's what the log seems to say), so I can't really repeat the problem and I don't seem to have the logs from yesterday :(

As for the questions, yes, I had a working system with the NVIDIA accelerated drivers. I didn't change any settings from my system, same hardware, same setup.

If I have the time, I might try tomorrow to repeat the system crash. Thankfully, MDK9.1 seems to install quite faster than previous versions.

I hope it helps to find the problem.

Actually, a copy I made before trying the drivers (the original got corrupted after the crash).
Note: I've added .txt to the filename. Otherwise I wasn't allowed to post it on the forum.

This log is using the opensource "nv" driver, not the "nvidia" driver - it looks fine. Do you have one from a crash?

That log was the one at /var/log after the crash (and in case you wonder, no, I didn't start the X-Window system before copying it). I guess nothing was logged then :( (I used the nv driver before trying the nvidia one)

Is there anything else I can do/send you that might help you?
