Release notes show this should address the slowdowns (texture evict issue)...

"Improved performance of the graphics memory manager on GeForce
8 series GPUs running DirectX 9 applications in single‐GPU and NVIDIA SLI configurations. These improvements solve cases of reported performance slowdowns in some 3D applications with high graphics settings and resolutions."

I have already been waiting for a particular fix for over a year now. In hope this information will somehow reach nVIDIA R&D I would like to describe the problem in detail here.

Problem concerns DXVA in combination with VMR. Some multimedia apps render OSD's on a second input pin of the VMR. This is the way Microsoft specifies for displaying OSD's which is causing trouble here. It does not handle both inputs correctly together with aspect ratio information. Video image is only a quarter of the actual window size, the rest of the image is just garbage (see second screenshot below).

Here is what the graph looks like: http://members.inode.at/762450/vmr-bug/graph.jpg

Here is what the bug makes out of the video image: http://members.inode.at/762450/vmr-bug/vmr_bug.jpg

There are two ways that make the problem disappear but as you will see, these are not at all solutions, just hints:

Set color depth to 8-Bit
Disable deinterlacing within VMR

Let's get some XP feedback.

Someone poke Damicatz for his texture-evict analysis.

Glad the texture evict issue is fixed, but according to the notes Republic Commando still doesn't work. Guess I'll just have to accept the fact that I'm never going to play that game :(

Hey are these different than the beta 163.44's? Won't bother with them if they are...

Wow, Crysis seems to be just around the corner, praying that my aging system will be able to handle it. Just getting by with Bio Shock now....the demo will be the deciding factor I guess....

I'll try these out.

I tried em out and have no complaints. This driver is working great on my good old gaming rig just as the 163.44 driver did. Thanks Nvidia. Another solid driver. I'm really looking forward to the Crysis demo coming out later this month. Games I'm currently playing that have zero problems with this driver are Battlefield 2142, Battlefield 2, Call Of Duty 2, Test Drive Unlimited, Rainbow Six Vegas, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2.

Oblivion on ultra settings with texture packs installed really suffer from the "slowdown" problem mentioned in the release notes. Thats a sudden loss of FPS for no obvious reason. The GTS is the card that usually suffers this but Oblivion with lots of texture addons hits the GTX and the Ultra also. So if this fixes that I'll be thrilled. Going to test tonight. :headexplode:

I used to get 15 FPS in that spot because of the memory issue.

<3 NVIDIA!

just tried stalker & gothic3 with this driver, can gladly tell you fps is nice and high at all times =) tried a few quick maps of ut2004 aswell.. seems very stable hitching/stuttering wise in tdm/tam & ctf!! even a improvement over the latest quadro beta's, finally my gfx card is working how it was advertised :p

Anyone mind telling me if F.E.A.R. doesn't have inane frame-rate dips? Or if JA's dynamic glow and COH's dynamic lights issue has been fixed around? That's my main concern here.

Just so you guys know, the real reason these drivers were released today is because the Crysis IGN Founder's Club Exclusive MP Beta was released today. Fortunately for me I am in the Founder's Club. Again, for any Founder's Club subscibers here that don't know yet, the Crysis MP Beta has been released. Keys are limited. Better hurry. For all you non-subscribers it looks like they will open the beta to more people later on down the road, but at the moment it's only for subscribers. Don't worry, the SP demo comes out on the 25th for everyone.

EDIT: Looks like the tier 1 keys are already taken. I got lucky. Look for more opportunities to get in the beta in the near future.

does anyone else get weird yellow beams in Oblivion? I've had this issue last driver as well, its really weird. Only happens indoors for me in stores and such.

That's happens when there are missing textures in the game. Did you install any mods?

This is good, we have pretty similiar set ups.

tested performance a bit and it seems the small performance loss i had with 163.44 is now gone and back to normal... i also noticed a few hdtv bugs fixed
