lol yeah but thats not all there is to the story.
if it ran like crap on an ultra all that tells me is the user decided not to try
to get better performance, and simply gave up.
i have a 8800 gts 640mb, and the beta flies, it's smooth as hell. we've had
this discussion before tho.
oh yeah, my proc is much lower speed too; only 1.9 ghz core 2 duo.
(by flies, and smooth as hell i mean 30-50fps average with all options on high, 4xaa and 16x af. at a res of 1280x1024)
which is by my standards quite acceptable. for a beta.
Yep. Installed, set everything to high (1280x1024, no AA/AF) and didn't get my 60FPS minimum (aka "butter smooth" standard) lol. DELETED :thumbdwn:

I have a beta key if someone wants it. I played the game once and it ran like crap so I uninstalled it :thumbdwn: Hopefully the demo is better.
Me !!!
Thanks :captnkill:

Perhaps but there may be some optimistic morons running tail if this Fridays version is not much faster.
It really can go either way.
I am with you, not really convinced how much it will improve.

I would love it :) but someone else has dibs :(
whos to say it will be well optimised? ^^
People on XS.org that have played it :p

Wasn't it running very well when they were playing the multiplay on the USS Hornet for a Media day? The gametrailers.com videos from that day make it look extremely fluid. We've been playing a beta that's very much out of date and full of bugs so why would you expect it to perform the same?

Eh? I thought it was Crytek's domain. May not be EA but its Crytek.

I think because they'd rather work their butts off with QA rather than make the monumental effort to release a public beta. It's harder to get a public beta out there than an internal build. There's a lot more to coordinate. We've already seen 3 builds, that's more than most public betas.

Demo out yet? No news on 24hr early preloaders? No annoucement from EA or Crytek?
I'm starting to smell a Yahoo type fiasco. :thumbdwn:

It'll be possibly be released at 12PM Central Standard which is in 2 hours 20 minutes now.
If not, we got jipped.

I just tried out a few new cfg settings and I have to say I'm impressed. Improved sunshafts, water reflections (reflects more objects and they get updated more often), higher quality LODs for trees, bushes, structures, disabled texture LODs, forced occlusion mapping. Almost nothing is "popping up" anymore, sharper textures in the medium-long distance, and the performance hit seemed actually neglectible. :)
Which settings? :)

Which settings? :)
Create an autoexec.cfg (text file) in the same folder where the system.cfg is located copy and paste this into the autoexec.cfg:
; r_displayinfo = 1
e_view_dist_ratio_detail = 30
e_water_ocean_soft_particles = 1
e_lod_ratio = 12
e_particles_thread = 1
r_sunshafts = 1
sys_physics_CPU = 1
r_DepthOfField= 1
r_MotionBlur= 1
r_DetailDistance = 12
r_DynTexMaxSize = 120
r_Beams = 1
r_BeamsDistFactor=0.01
r_BeamsMaxSlices=200
r_CloudsUpdateAlways=1
r_WaterReflectionsQuality = 3
r_WaterUpdateFactor = 0.03
r_WaterGodRays = 1
r_UsePom = 1
e_detail_materials_view_dist_xy = 4096
e_detail_materials_view_dist_z = 256
e_cull_veg_activation = 70
e_lods = 0
r_TextureLodMaxLod = 0
r_DynTexAtlasCloudsMaxSize=40
r_DynTexAtlasSpritesMaxSize=30
Make sure that the system.cfg isn't modified in any way and neither the 13 sys_spec_*.cfg in the Game/Config/CVarGroups. This is not necessary anymore and might actually cause problems, use the default ones that came with the Beta3, if you don't have them, just PM and I'll email you them. :)

Good, thanks!
A few notes. Bushes and trees still have this ugly lod textures at pretty close range, and textures a few meters away look very blurry just like if you had anisotropic filtering turned off. As it always do when u use POM in the beta AFAIK. Otherwise it looks great, good job witht he rays and the water. Also, i get a bit worse framerates with this.

Actually I picked only "4096" for the LOD, LOD is not disabled but "pushed further away", and I believe you can go high as "8192" to push is even further back. AF apparently is controlled by the server settings in the beta but higher angled textures are indeed sharper in the med/long distance, somebody posted screenshot comparisions of that in the beta forums. :)
