I have some old old old old old old old old old old hardware

some Aopen board based on via KT400 chip, Athlon XP 2200 (i think) 1gb ddr, optical drive, hard drive, PSU.

I was thinking about buying some cheap case for it and mess around with linux on it.

it it worth spending money on it to get a case, or just throw it out.

That old (read, SLOW) stuff will just piss you off.

I also have a graveyard of very old stuff here. I'm a pack rat and just seem to never get rid of anything. I mean, we are talking old slot-1, 386/486 stuff, and beyond OLD crap. Old PSU's, mobos, cases, etc. etc.

If you get bored, sure, but do realize that newer versions of Linux are getting kind of fat too, both cpu and gfx-wise. Unless you know how to install a newer version of Linux in a stripped down manner, you will be dissapointed.

Give that old stuff to the DVA (Disabled Veterans Association) or some other charity. At least they will properly dispose of it if they can't use it.

My buddies 3000+ with 1gb memory and 6800GT is truly frustrating to work with after using this set up.
