McLaren have been stripped of their points in the 2007 Formula One constructors' championship after the outcome of the 'spygate' row.

The team was also hit with a record $100m (£49.2m) fine but drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso will be allowed to keep their points.

The team's 2008 cars will have to be examined before they are allowed to race next season.

McLaren team chief Ron Dennis is due to speak at a 1915 BST news conference.

Holy hell  Thats a HUGE fine, far bigger than i thought they would get. They claim they havent used or implemented anything of ferraris secrets but a punishment like that must mean that there's evidence that proves the opposite i guess.

ferraris secrets?

what if accidently they invented the same thing, and used it, how would they proove it?

That punishment is seriously messed up and I´m not even a McLaren fan. :thumbdwn:

I think they deserve to get stripped of their constructor points but the fine of "$100 Million" is alittle absurd.

This is not good for Mclaren.... I'm not aware of many teams that can take a 100 million dollar fine and just wipe it off :screwy:

100 million? Holy ****. These race teams make that much in a year?:headexplode:

Yeah, much more than that. Each race costs them roughly that, and they're paying the drivers obscene amounts of money. Motor racing is one of the most popular sports in the world, despite limited TV coverage.

Whoa, I didn't expect that big of fine. I thought they'd lose like half their drivers' points or something.

and SIN, yes...Toyota is the richest in F1, they spend approximately $440 million a year.

Well currently Mclaren is a debt free company and I am sure they turnover about 300 - 350 Million pounds so they should be able to swallow it. I think Mercedes may go half on it so that will weaken then blow. What will hit them is if any of their sponsors default and pull out now that the team has no champ points

That's not good for F1 :( But it's typical for the FIA and Ferrari relationship, ridiculous!

Mercedes ftw! To hell with Ferrari!

Why not an anal probing of the drivers, too ?

Bah. So, should McLaren develop something similar to what will be used by Ferrari next year, they risk being excluded from the races ? That's completely absurd.

This sentence just prove what is has been whispered in the circus for several years now (and that led some years ago to the threat of leaving 1 by some of the major players), that is that there are some ties between FIA and Ferrari.

This is so bad for the soprt on so several levels that I don't even know what to begin with...

Bah.

I bet we see an appeal go through and the fine gets reduced, a 100 million dollar fine is just freaking absurd BTW...did you guys read the news this morning? Apparently the information was in other hands and was planned on being used in the Mclarens by Pedro De La Rosa and Fernando. :nono:

www.formula1.com should have all the info

And Alonsa can still win the WDC !!!.. its a complete joke.
I have been watching F1 for 20+years, i have no particular allegence, but i think McLaren got off lightly, mainly in the interests of preserving the sport.
I think the best thing McLaren can do is take it on the chin and withdraw frmo the rest of the season. At least then they might get a bit of respect and credability back. This championship is too tainted anyway.

Well I am just glad that it is a $100 million and not €100 million or worse £100 million. I think they will be able to bounce back from this and obsorbe the fine without too much trouble.

I heard that its as much as a smaller teams yearly budget but for mclaren its 27% of their annual budget.David Coulthard claimed that mclaren have around 800 million € from their sponsors each year,it will hit them and hit them hard but they can and will cope with it.

Well, McLaren will NOT appeal. But, some people don't understand that there are more implications. McLaren is at the back of the field next year. They have to pay their own frieght for everything, they will be BEHIND Spyker, and their pits will be HALF the size.
