Does this mean you will stop the "cELL!!!" comments since Sony is only purchasing and controlling how the business is ran and Toshiba is the one making the chips...
Hell, Don't even know what this article has to do with Home Theater other then it stating the reason Sony is selling its stake of the CELL Development so it could focus on Home Theater advancement.

Simply, as the Cell was a joint venture between Sony, Toshiba, and IBM, the only viable place to sell technology related to the Cell is to the other partners. Should Sony want to sell to someone else, there would be intellectual property concerns with the sale and use.
Now why exactly would Sony want to sell any of their businesses? The answer to that is simple as well, Sony as it stands has been loosing money in a number of their divisions. One of the big ones, as it is a cyclical affair, is gaming. Sony gaming = the Cell. I imagine investors do not like this.
http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/financial/fr/viewer/07q1/slide/image/04_image.jpg
Gaming had:
196.6 billion yen in gross earnings.
-29.2 billion yen in net earnings.
Compare this to the consolidated chart:
http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/financial/fr/viewer/07q1/slide/image/03_image.jpg
Sony made 66.5 billion yen in net earnings.
From this you can say that the gaming division ate near 1/3 of Sony's net profits.
As we all know in the 1st QTR 2007 the gaming division posted http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/financial/fr/viewer/07q1/slide/image/12_image.jpg
to be competitive Sony dropped the price of the PS3 in QTR3 2007 and has yet to report their financial statement for that quarter.
Of course the most interesting stuff is buried deep in http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/financial/ar/2007/qfhh7c00000d7q95-att/SonyAR07-13.pdf on page 18 which states at the end of QTR1 2007 that Sony has
3,551,852 Million yen in short term debt and 4,754,826 Million yen in long term debt, with only 799,899 million yen of cash on hand.
What all that basically means is that Sony still is working to restructure their business to reduce their debt, and selling parts that do not perform as well as they would like is a easy way to do so.

So the A4, A40, A45 and XA4 are going to be cElL powered?

Toshiba's current offerings could be cell powered. The Cell makes a good dvd player.

Yes I read the artice.
Sony is looking at ways to improve its chip operations but has reached no decision, the company said Tuesday, denying Japanese media reports that it has a deal to sell the business to Toshiba.

the cell may become sentient and decide that to stop cancer the logical method would be to destroy all humans.

You should consider reading it again, and possibly ponder the meaning of "Deny".

It would be more useful to ponder the meaning of TAZERED.

I been reading it 3 times, it seemed you had lost your dictionary?
As I been said in the quote:
Sony is looking at ways to improve its chip operations but has reached no decision, the company said Tuesday, denying Japanese media reports that it has a deal to sell the business to Toshiba.
You asked me to look at the meaning of word "Deny" in the dictionary so here you go:
to state that (something declared or believed to be true) is not true: to deny an accusation.
That mean in the last weekend Japanese media reports believed Sony and Toshiba had reached a deal to sell Sony CELL chip operations to Toshiba but on 18 Sept Sony denied Japanese media reports that it were not true.
Accorded to Sony and Toshiba spokeman that nothing had been decided on a deal so no deal meaning no sale of CELL operations to Toshiba or maybe they both called the whole deal off and forget everything so nothing had been decided.
http://mw1.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/deny
Given:
"Sony is looking at ways to improve its chip operations but has reached no decision, the company said Tuesday, denying Japanese media reports that it has a deal to sell the business to Toshiba."
and
"Toshiba Corp. spokesman Keisuke Omori said nothing has been decided on such a deal."
Can indicate that a) A deal has not been reached, and b) Sony is working on a deal to sell that fab.
As such Sony is simply denying that a deal has been reached, and not denying that a deal is in the works. Both uses while technically correct are not good uses of the word, as many people consider deny=never but in this usage it is not the case.

Be careful guys. AthlonXP may commit suicide if Sony abandons the cELL like this. It is the ultimate form of sacrilege for a Sony fanboy.
