Loose mic input when overclocking "help"

Well I thought it was due to my overclock but it appears (after reinstalling Windows XP SP2) to be Windows Vista causing the issue.

Can the Windows Vista 64bit drivers be that bad?

Sound output is fine, just the MIC sound is aweful, either not sound or high pitched sound.
