I have finally played Unreal 2 to death and have decided to move on. I have two games that I have yet to install. The problem is I'm not sure which one I should play next! :p
So what should it be guys? Freelancer or Splinter Cell? I like each genre pretty much on even keel... Someone choose for me!
ive always been a splinter cell fan myself:cool:

Splinter Cell it is... It sounds like it shouldn't take to long to finish it so I should have plenty of time for freelancer once I get done with Splinter Cell. :)

Wow, I'm over halfway through the game on normal and so far it's been pretty easy in spots but also tough in spots as well.
The graphics in this thing are awesome! Excellent use of Unreal 2's engine. Great environmental shadows/lighting effects. I love that silencer... I personally prefer the typical FPS style that Unreal 2 offers but at the same time this game feels like it'll have more replayability to it than U2 had. I think I'll be attempting to finish this thing on hard before I move on to Freelancer.
Thanks for the great recommendation guys! :cool:

Splinter Cell is shorter, so do that first...Freelancer is a long long game, I'm putting it off.

That's the thing.
Freelancer is NOT a long game by any stretch of the imagination. The story quest doesn't take that long, and after that, there's absolutely nothing to do unless you want to blow random things up. And that gets really boring.

I'm going to give Freelancer a try after this for two reasons. I pre-ordered and received my copy so that kinda obligates me to give it a shot after spending $50 on it. Secondly, I don't care that much if it's a fairly short game. Unreal 2 received a lot of critisizm for that but it didn't seem all that short to me (playing it on hard helped I imagine). Game on... :p

Well.... in all honesty, Freelancer isn't that short of a game.
It just really seems that way after half of it is "Go around, blow things up that have nothing to do with anything, make money doing the same things repeatedly, do similar things in the missions, and then see the worst ending in any game ever."
The story plot just kinda "ends." There's no ending, it's just, "Yup, that's it."
Blah. If somebody makes an Elite mod or an Escape Velocity mod, I will say it's the best thing ever. Sadly, nobody has made either yet ;)
Freelancer is fun for a while. It is long, but then you start to notice the repetition...
while not endOfGame{
shortStoryBasedMission()
targetExperience = experience + 1000
while experience < targetExperience{
pointlessBoringRandomMission()
experience = experience + 0.001
}
}
I got bored of it before I reached the end, now that I hear the ending sucks I am kind of glad.
off topic, but I want a sequel to Hardwar :)

A conversation I had about Freelancer's ending:
M a 1 c h u s: so you beat it?
ReMixx2340: i dunno
M a 1 c h u s: you did
ReMixx2340: there hasnt been a storyline mission in awhile
M a 1 c h u s: after the __________, that's it
ReMixx2340: is that the _______________?
M a 1 c h u s: yes
ReMixx2340: are you freakin kidding me
M a 1 c h u s: no
M a 1 c h u s: heh
ReMixx2340: thats not cool...
M a 1 c h u s: correctamundo
M a 1 c h u s: there's nothing else to do
ReMixx2340: then whats the point of playing more?
Yup. Pretty much it. And the ______ are there to not spoil the one somewhat cool thing in Freelancer, although it's about as original as ketchup. ;)

Freelancer is a game that had big potential I think (starts to dream off where this game might have ended ..... )
There are lots of things that I can put my finger on and say I dont like it.
There is a bit of rpg elements in the game where you gain levels and may then pilot better space ships if you can afford them. And that is the problem with the game I think.
After you have done a story mission you are off the hook for some time to gather money for your self by doing various of missions of your liking. Thats good I like that. But once you have gained your level but not nessesary all the money you would like to buy that ship you saw on that planet ... you are automaticly drawn in to a story part again preventing you from buing the things you like. No ... since your in strory mode again youll have to stick with what you got and upgrade it and then your draged across the galaxy(s) and the problem repeats it self. Only this time the ships are more expencive.
In rpgs I like to collect gold/money and exp to be powerfull, that takes time and is part of the fun ... the building. In this game you are prevented alot from this and I think it is very annoying.
I have finished the game and after the story is complete you have free hands as a true freelancer in the galaxy ... great. But now there is another problem. Why do you want to build up your character when there is no goal ?
You have already beaten the toughest things in the galaxy. No more need to be all that powerfull.
This game could have been something if things were alittle different.
The game is still pretty nice I think, this is just what it really comes down to if you ask me.
I do think it is worth playing thro but you will be annoyed with things ...
