Using the NVidia X driver, X locks every time I launch OpenOffice and pull up the open file dialog.
This does not happen with the XFree "nv" driver.
This is unrelated to the v4l module, as I've tried it both with and without this module with the same results (reference to a previous thread).
Config:
- Dual Pentium III/1GHz (SGI 330 motherboard) w/1.5GB RAM
- GeForce2GTS 64MB
- RedHat 8.0
- Fresh 2.4.20 kernel from ftp.kernel.org (not RedHat patched)
- NVidia driver 4349 (newest release)
- Stock RedHat OpenOffice
When X locks, the mouse still moves (which I don't understand), but everything else is frozen, including xosview, wmfire, etc.
Sysreq hotkey has no effect (can't sync, umount, boot, etc.).
Running strace on X's pid returns endless looping of the following:
sigreturn() = ? (mask now [])
--- SIGALRM (Alarm clock) ---
sigreturn() = ? (mask now [])
--- SIGALRM (Alarm clock) ---
sigreturn() = ? (mask now [])
--- SIGALRM (Alarm clock) ---
I can kill X by logging in remotely, but it requires signal 9.... and all VTs are unusable screen garbage after that.
At this point, you either have to relaunch X or reboot.
