weird problem-burner now writes @ half orig spec?

Need your help guys w/ a weird problem, for some reason all of a sudden my Sony CDRW won't burn faster than 12x? I've already tried several different kinds of media and burning apps. Like most burners I know all with all burners the actual write speed with vary based upon the media and how far into the cdr its writing data but this one I knew avg around 20x. I haven't made any drv changes or major software changes. btw, currently its sharing an ide cable w/ a dvd-rom but I've already tried moving it to its own cable to no avail, although that should be irrelevant since its ran fine on that setup for several months now. suggestions :confused:

thanks for the help guys but I think I fixed it:p

After doing a lil research found out that my particular Sony CDRW CRX175E2 was actually made by Aopen. Downloaded the latest firmware for the AOpen CRW2440 and it writes data fine now at its rated speed.
